A couple of answers. These are called buckaroo pouches or folding knife pouches:

The strap back feeds on your belt loop and you drop the whole thing in your pocket. Need your knife, pull on the thong and the whole package comes out of your pocket. Squeeze the bottom and the knife slides into your hand. Leave the pouch dangling while using your knife and all done , back in the pouch and back in your pocket:

Out of the way while you're ear tagging calves:

Then as Joe mentioned there are belt sheaths:

Either one of these solutions will keep your folder from opening in your pocket. Little more soul than an old inner tube too.

I think Horsewright has it right if you are concerned about knives opening inside a pocket. The pouches look great too. I honestly think the inner tube approach is simply ugly and something I might do in a pinch and then figure out something later that is more appealing to me. Guess you could always use the inner tube to get a fire going in the woods if things are generally wet.

This knife opening concern is a made up problem that happens perhaps once. Same goes with getting hit by lightning even though I have been hit by lightning. If you want an ugly piece of inner tube inside your pocket, that's your call. Not for me.

My cousin lives in rural Nevada and does a lot with horses and cattle. He does something similar to the static cord. His buddy made it for him. During the week he does HVAC and every other waking-hour he is on a horse herding cattle. He used it when cowboying on a several hundred square mile farm in Montana as well. It’s a smart idea, to be sure.
