Biker's EDC

The extra boot lace is for a merc harness. Or you could also carry it IWB on a static line.

An impact tool is way better for SD, especially if you're biking (I also am a cyclist/bike commuter, and live in a rough part of town). A Kryptonite Evo u-lock is your best bet. It's like a huge pair of knucks, you can stick it through your belt to carry it (and this provides for a quick draw), and it's TOTALLY legal.
(In addition, it is THE most secure bike lock available.)
Yeah, I was considering that. I've seen a few other bikers doing the belt carry, but I'm not sure if they had SD in mind.
Thanks for the input.

Hacked, recently in my part of the world bikers have been the targets of assault by groups of young teenage kids. One guy was beaten into a coma, all they did was take his wallet. With all due respect, I'll take my chances with a knife before I try swinging my bike at a group of attackers. A U lock is a good alternative to a knife as another suggested.
Exactly the kind of thing I was going to say- well put.

Ah- I failed to realize that before. Thanks for letting me know.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to get caught concealing that.

Crom I understand this probably better then you as I have been chased multiple times, had rocks thrown at me, shot at ( I know WTF) , and even pulled off my bike. However I spent years riding late at night in bad parts of various cities in my youth. The one time I had to fight back with anything other then my fists it was my bike not my knife and the person who I made contact with doubled over and pain while his buddy backed off. I agree with the lock or an obvious defensive weapon like pepper spray but Knives already have a bad enough reputation and you would be begging for legal trouble just something to think about. On another note I wish I could ride to work like I once did unfortunately I live to far from work good for the OP.

Hacked, i'm a 38 year old man that has lived in the city all my life. I have walked, skated, and cycled (cycling now being the primary mode of traversing the hoods) in every neighborhood of my town and been in my fair share of sketchy situations. I know how to take care of myself and I appreciate your input. But you are being naive if you think you can forsee all scenarios. I will take my chances with the legality of things, better that than dead.

Crom Sorry did not mean to imply that I could foresee every scenario. I like yourself was simply giving my opinion. I do hope the OP at least considers my other advice of EDCing a spoke wrench, hex keys, tube/pump and a camel pack. The camel pack keeps all the weight off the bike which trust me makes a world of difference. In the end he will carry what he wants for SD I just hate that knives are so widely viewed as weapons and also do not like allowing an attacker to get as close as required by a knife. Stay safe watch out for bad drivers the biggest danger in my part of the world we have ghost bikes all over because of them.

I bike ride about 30-40 miles a week and I carry a para2 (tip down) in my waistband (on my side).

A bike offers a lot more concealment options then you might initially appreciate. One idea is to get a second (or a first) watter bottle, only put a big folder, a can of pepper spray, a stun gun, some handcuffs, a lightsaber, and whatever else you can fit inside of it. There are also some bags that fit inside the frame, so you can cram anything else you might need in.

(when I first saw the title of this thread I was going to suggest Benchmade's Harley-Davison folder, I guess cyclists are on bikes to!)

I bike as a way to commute (it's healthy for you, traffic is [mostly] a non-issue, and you don't have to pay for/worry about keeping the tank full).
I was recently wondering what I should EDC in addition to my watch/wallet/keys.
I recently acquired a secondhand delica that I EDC for utility purposes, but was considering a compact blade (boot knife? push dagger?) for self defense purposes, preferably one that is light enough to not bother me while biking. [It would also be great if it didn't look intimidating/tacticool so that I don't take shit for not being PC.]
I was considering either a boot knife by Steingass or the Mercworx Seraphym.
Also considering an impact weapon/non lethal alternatives (I own a cheap stungun that's lying around here somewhere).

Any suggestions?

Perhaps consider something like a Spyderco Pacific Salt in H1 on your person if you feel the need for an SD type blade. For sheer utility, I think a good Leatherman and some folding allen keys would be quite useful. I've also seen some nice compact tool bags that mount under the saddle that have patch kits, spoke wrenches and other handy-dandy bike maintenance tools. You could probably stuff a small FAK in there too.

Good luck :)

Just a thought- I bought a generic knife in some southeast asian market (not sure which country... Myanmar?) with counterfit Boker 'Dein Messer Made in Solignen' etchings. I only bring it up because the shape happens to be perfect for front IWB carry- I can't tell that it's there at all. Since knife counterfitters tend to rip off other designs, I was wondering if anyone recognized this one:

My apologies for the blurry photo.

I always have a 3" frame-lock folder in my pocket when I ride in the city. It's legal carry and it's an additional tool next to my bike specific multi-tool. That being said, better to practice being mindful of your environment, try and foresee a possible bad situation and avoid it. Sometimes...things just happen.

Obviously, it's a good idea to read up on your local laws in regards to legal carry.
