As others have said, it's definitely worth it to take the MSF course. I took the Canadian equivalent and really enjoyed it.
I started with a Suzuki Marauder 800 cruiser last spring and really enjoyed it until someone backed over it in a Bellingham parking lot last August (pics below). It wasn't all bad though since I fulfilled a lifelong dream of picking up a Harley soon after. After some shopping around with a buddy we found a chromed up '97 Sportster 1200C for a decent price and one ride had me hooked. It's not the last Harley I'll buy but it will definitely keep me happy for a few years until the career switch and university are done and an upgrade to a Wide Glide or Street Glide is possible.
