Bill And Rusty: A Year Forward, A Look Backayear

It gets better too. As you give away things, you get down to where the only thing you can give is yourself.

Then the fun starts.

I'd write a paragraph; the Old Man would write a sentence. See?
So I started cutting back even more. I'd always been good at slicing words out of the air when they got in the way. When I wrote to Bill I tried to be succinct. But I didn't have his experience, and he had 20 years on me. Good man.

I see this in your style now munk, and didn't realize where it came from until this post. Very nice. You live and learn. Pass it on down to the next guy many years hence.

Can't belive its been a year already. I only started to know Uncle Bill and Rusty then they were both gone. Even though I never met them in person, they affected me in ways I still can't explain. They both live on in the form of The Cantina. Uncle Bill and Rusty were the heart and soul of this place and we carry on in their memory, continuing the good work they started.

I don't come to these forums much anymore. Like Yvsa intends doing, I've moved onto another stage of my life. One of my prized possessions is a sirupati once owned by Bill. I sure miss Bill. He was just sooo different in the nicest way and such a rich source of humanity. He had the ability to enrich everyone visiting this forum. Rest in peace, Bill.

Sometimes I feel that both of them are still around .. sort of their good spirits still lingering without words in HI Bladeforums!

Well, not really.
We both admired less words. All my literary icons are that way. But in corresponding to Bill, it was a very useful role model, you see? I envied him sometimes for how he could cut to the quick. He reminded me- reinforced it.

Private correspondance is different in some ways. I want to put everything down, afraid I'll miss something. Bill was wise in dealing with people, at least some people, and he could go to the marrow.

Bill had warned us but Rusty going just wasn't right.

Can't believe its only one year. Seems like forever.

Rusty was a surprise. But I think the exit was fitting. He knew we all had to get ready for Bill. He was there, making sure everything worked, then rode quietly off.

I miss them both. Smoke going up.

I saw no reason, or not very many, for Rusty to leave.
I've come to believe he did so and now new doors are open.
I don't know about any 'fair' regarding that.
But it may have been the right time, and a good thing after all.

I wish I had known them. I've read many of their posts, and can see the impression they've made on you gentlemen. I believe great men always leave an impression on the world. Like a footprint on the people around them. You can feel it more than see it. I get to know of them through you guys as much as from their posts. Thanks.

I remember Walosi well, and am glad I got the chance to speak with him albeit electronically.

I've been thinking about Rusty lately. I was glad this thread got kicked back up. Things will never be the same, and some days I arrive at the forum I scarcely recognize it. I want there to be Rusty just behind me so I can ask for advice. But there is no Rusty. I can't stay stuck in time, no one can, so I keep moving knowing The Great Heart will put someone, or a combination of someones, into the path where he used to pull his share.

They are remembered.

No, thank you. It is one hell of a job to continue on from Uncle Bill, Rusty and all the old timers. To do it well, as you are, is something few could do. I couldnt. Not even close, and I've tried elsewhere in the past. You never know how hard it is to do the moderator job well until you've tried.

So, hat off and raised glass to you my friend.

Thanks, Bex. There have been only a few rough spots, and many more with friendship and support.
