What's the EDC of the well known? Not just the EDC of one of the most generous people in history but anyone who's name we know.

I was motor boating on Lake Washington, Redmond Washington (home of Microsoft), this last warm and sunny weekend. Among many terrific lakeside homes I passed by Bill's place. And, I wondered, what knife would he toss me if the boat's propeller became entangled and needed to be cut free, while I drifted helplessly past his dock.

I imagined that it would be a SAK (alox Soldier). But, that is just speculation.

Best,

Would'nt he just have a few ninjas follow him around in case of any need for a knife?

Difficult to say for Gates, but I think the carry of knives would depend on which classification of superwealthy you were. A new england wealth probably frown on the idea of carrying your own knife. However, a southern gentile would probably carry something classic. Buck 110ish.

Well, there's no way I could prove any of those, so let's just indulge my imagination.

He carries a Case peanut.

Does Steven Seagal carry a Steven Seagal?

Something to think about...

Hey artfully martial, what do you have against new englanders? Besides the Buck 110 is a california knife, and in no way shape or form is california a southern state. I was raised on the mason dixon line and i've lived in the south and in new england, and you'll find just as many liberals in georgia (home of jimmy carter) as you will find conservative crackers in new england (home of Sununu).

Somewhere on this forum, i believe that we were told mr superwealthy george bush the second carries a custom slipjoint...classic pattern, but in no way shape or form is that as big as a 110 or useful as a weapon. In the ranch pictures of george the second, the only thing on bush's belt is his huge belt buckle...no pliers, no leatherman, no buck 110.

I think he would quickly come up with another software program to take care of the task at hand, thus eliminating the need for an EDC! ;)

Gates carries a United Cutlery special. Now Steve Jobs on the other hand carries a custom made masterpiece.

Whoa now, I didn't use any negative tone with New England wealth. But my experience with the old money (I define the wealthy by the forbes top 400) is that they would definitely not appreciate carrying a knife. Being the southern counterpart, it's fairly obvious that I'm quite alright with carrying knives.

I didn't claim the Buck was a southern knife, only that it was a classical knife. That's the sort of knife most of the wealthy people I'm around would carry (again, wealthy in the way I'm using it is at least a couple hundred million and up, I'm not talking about the lawyer down the street). But maybe my generation is different. Most of my wealthy southern friends are carrying quasi tactical knives...but that might just be my influence on them.

Furthermore, I didn't say anything about conservative versus liberal or anything else along those lines. Come on now, be fair to me here. I said something innocent and simple. You're reading a lot into a simple observation.

Interestingly, New England doesn't have the old death grip on the wealth as much as I'm told it used to. California has easily outpaced both Texas and NY for number of top 400 citizens (followed by NY, then by Texas).

I am not sure about his taste in knives :D, but I know for a fact he has good taste in knife display boxes.

He puts them in Tomways!

Don't get me started about celebrities and knives.

Common observed traits of celebrities:
- They're vociferously anti-knife and anti-gun (disarm the rabble).
- They live in gated and guarded communities.
- They travel with bodyguards.

Their security is bought and paid for - but common folk like us should be disarmed. We're 'dangerous'. Something must be done - about us.

I'm guessing that Bill Gates carries one of those $4 made-in-China Spyderco Delica knock-offs that he bought at 7-11 while filling up his '73 Ford Maverick.:D.:D.
