Bill Gate's EDC

I don't know about Bill Gates, but old money in New England does carry knives -- the men do. The women don't; every time they want to cut something they borrow a knife from the nearest man. If your knife gets borrowed and it isn't sharp enough for the task you will catch heck....

Does Steven Seagal carry a Steven Seagal?

Something to think about...

Do you think the chairman of Ford Motor Company drives a Ford? :jerkit:

If he does, it's probably a $150,000 GT.

Just because a whore puts their name on something doesn't mean he believes in it...

For the record, I enjoy Seagal's movies sometimes (one of my favorites is "Fire Down Below," actually!), and I don't know enough of the knife to be a judge of it, but I tend to frown on that kind of thing, as it just seems like some marketing person approached someone with a "name" and said, "Will you help us sell this?"

I'm cynical about that kind of crap.

Somewhere on this forum, i believe that we were told mr superwealthy george bush the second carries a custom slipjoint...classic pattern, but in no way shape or form is that as big as a 110 or useful as a weapon. In the ranch pictures of george the second, the only thing on bush's belt is his huge belt buckle...no pliers, no leatherman, no buck 110.

I speak for no one but myself, but I suspect a lot of people would have a lot of respect for a true down-to-earth President who carried a Leatherman on his belt at all times, one that showed signs of use.

The fact that you don't see this is indicative to me that modern politicians are simply not real people -- they're cardboard cutouts used to further political or economic agendas, and nothing more.

Regardless, he's wealthier than MOST.

If he had to, do you think he could scrape together $1M cash overnight?
If so, I call him "wealthy."

Based on what I make and live off of right now, if I had a million dollars, I'm quite sure I could manage to live for decades without having to work. I dunno about anyone else, but when you're used to making about $25-30,000 annually, you get the sense you could live for easily 20-30 years on a clear $1M...

1,000,000 / 30 = 33,333. That's plenty.

I would guess that Steve Jobs carries a good SAK and Bill Gates carries a cheap (but overpriced) copy of the same...

It's my guess if your boat prop was tangled and you floated by Bill he wouldn't toss you a knife but he'd suggest you buy a new boat from him. :)

the key phrase there is "showed signs of use" Remember the photo op after Katrina in New Orleans when Bush was shown wearing a brand new leather tool belt full of bright shiny virgin tools -- one of those presidential assistants had to get that out of storage on Air Force One just for that photo. I'm sure all politicians have that stuff handy for just such occasions. They take classes in how to roll up the long sleeves on those custom French-cuff shirts!

Yea, maybe the new boat won't have seagrass tangled in it(not til you hook it up to the internet), but it's annoying when the engine stalls and you have to keep restarting it... :D

Yes, he does drive a ford. Its just got Jaguar emblems on it. :D Probably has a Land Rover, and a Aston Martin too. They're all owned by Ford.

I'm sure I could manage to live for the rest of my life and supply enough for the rest of my kid's life on $1 Mil :

1,000,000 x 3% (regular bank CD at less than current 1 year market rate) = $30,000 interest income annually AND you never touch the original million.

Wouldn't you have to pay tax on the 30K as income? That would leave you about $20,000/yr to live on.

Make it 2Million and I could get by at my current level.

What's the EDC of the well known? Not just the EDC of one of the most generous people in history but anyone who's name we know.

I was motor boating on Lake Washington, Redmond Washington (home of Microsoft), this last warm and sunny weekend. Among many terrific lakeside homes I passed by Bill's place. And, I wondered, what knife would he toss me if the boat's propeller became entangled and needed to be cut free, while I drifted helplessly past his dock.

I imagined that it would be a SAK (alox Soldier). But, that is just speculation.

Best,

I'm surprised that you were able to drift past his house! I thought he would have robots in the water to stop anyone that came too close.

Not sure what knife he would carry exactly. But I am sure that.....

- it would need to closed and re-opened in the middle of a cutting job.
- sometimes it just wouldn't open.
- about 10 times a year you'd have to install new scales and update the steel in
your blade.
- the new version of your knife would never be released on time.
- pretty much all old school users would complain about the knife, but they would all use one exactly the same everyday.

(just a little IT humour :jerkit: )

I think he would quickly come up with another software program to take care of the task at hand, thus eliminating the need for an EDC! ;)
Rather, he'd steal one from a competitor and market it as his own...

Wonder if you'd be able to use it in safe mode?
would it turn blue all of a sudden?

Something with way more blades than it needs, that locks up when you try to open to many blades at once.

There is some chance it could be designed or built by Microsoft, in which case its likely full of sharp edges and prone to horrible failure, so don't catch it, and make sure you check the manufacturer before you use it.
