God be with him:( :(

Even without his position in our field and his fame I would still be soundly shaken by this news, as this was an entirely good man. My eyes watered, at reading this because I have found few as generous and warm upon first meeting him. Needless to say, he will be profoundly missed.

RIP, Bill. I feel truly honored that I was given the opportunity to shake his hand and talk to him. Like Kevin said, a finer person would be hard to find.

Sad news indeed, I just learned yesterday that he was sick, and now today that he has passed. A living legend and good man has been lost, I regret that I never had the pleasure of meeting him.

Bill, His warm welcome brought many of us into the world of the forged blade.
His teaching always encouraged seeking to know more, he shared, encouraged and nurtured all who came his way. Without Bill and Margaret the ABS would never have come to be. They were a team and now together again. God Bless and thanks Bill.

God speed!

As usual, Ed said it better than I could.
This has been a bad 12 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is very sad news. I was just talking to a friend about him yesterday and he had mentioned Bill was not doing well. The knife world has lost another great human being. He will be missed. I will always remember this day when I was in his shop.

I had the honor of meeting Bill a number of times. He remembered me each time we got back in touch. Bill was a humble man who greatly influenced the world of knives. He was ever helpful and and aways had an encouraging word. He will be missed by everyone who he came in contact.

Rest well Bill....You sleep with Margaret tonight.

Pam

Bummer-I have always loved his style. One really great thing about being a Bladesmith is that your work keeps your memory alive forever. And with the depth of this mans work he will no doubt - "Live in our Hearts,Minds & most certainly our own work FOREVER". For who in this craft can knowingly say that they have not been inspired in some way by his work & methods. He was & always will be an Icon - RIP Bill

Read of Bill's passing on British Blades.

The following is from the ABS School of Bladesmithing Bulletin Board:

2/12/06 Bill Moran passed away this morning at 4:30 AM. The news came via email and we will post the funeral arrangements as soon as they are available.

Bill was the father of modern bladesmithing. His presence will be missed.

My prayers for comfort for his family and all who knew him.

God speed and God bless, Bill.
