Bill Moran Died

Bill teaching at the 2005 Blade Show in Atlanta. I got to both sit at his feet and shake his hand. What a man what a legacy

Bill's passing is very much on my mind, I asked myself what would he like? I decided to honor him by forging a blade for Bill & Margaret, the act brought peace. Anyone else who feels the same it may ease the loss, not for profit or any reason other than to share time with a friend.

I will always be grateful for all he has done for us, and particularly for opening his shop to us, talking to anybody, posing for pictures, looking at our knives and complimenting them ....Ect Ect... at the Moran hammer in's. For those of you who haven't met him, he is a really nice guy. I say "is" because I can't really think of him as "gone", just moved on to the next level. I figure he's with his wife now, not old and sick anymore, and probably still forging.......

I like Ed's idea. I'm gonna go forge something.......

THANKS BILL
Ed

Such a great person. Seems he was always interested in the student. May his legend will live on forever.

Here's a foto taken by Buddy Thomasson in 2003, in case anyone wants it:

I will remember the fine gentleman he was and all the great things he did for the knife community he loved so much. He will be missed.

He was a true and generous teacher and, as such a leader. I feel privileged to have met him once and will miss him. May he keep forging and hunting where he is now. RIP Bill.

I had heard at the Arkansas show that Mr.Moran was not well. Keep your fire hot Bill. You will live on in many makers, that you helped along the way. Fred

thanks for the fun Bill. Glad to see a man smile like he did talking about knives. Rest with a big smile up there too sir..............

Just got the news....

End of a legacy, indeed.

Hope the family follows through with plans to make his shop into a museum.

Glad I got the opportunity (like many of you) to meet him in person and chat with him. Heckuva nice guy.

Our knife community has certainly lost one of the true giants.

We are fortunate to have gained so much from what Bill Moran has given. I only recently began to pay attention to information about forging (long term goal is to forge tomahawks and who knows what else!) So when my interest was tweaked, what di dI do? Go to the Barney/Loveless/Moran knife making book and read from the man. That was great. That was a month ago.

Very sad news, but I am very happy for wht Bill Moran has given us.

Bill will be sorely missed but his legend will live on for many years to come.

Rest in Peace Bill

Very sad news indeed.....

He is now in a better place with a new home with his loving wife at his side as it has always been,he is happier now...

Now he can watch over all of us and guide our hands at the forge as he always wanted to do but couldnt reach us all in the mortal world.

Rest in peace Bill and keep the forge fires warm for those of us waiting our turn to join you in the big Smithy in the sky.

Bruce

This is sad. Bill was a wonderful gentleman and a great inspiration to many people and definitely to me. To put things on the brighter side...though Bill has passed he will never truly die. He had a long life that included a wonderful wife, many friends and a great career. He taught and inspired hundreds if not thousands of people over the years and did what he enjoyed doing. You can't ask for much better than that. Though I'm saddened by Bill's death, I will smile and be happy thinking about his life.
Rest peacefully,
J.
