Bill Moran has passed

i got to handle some of his knives and talk to him, great man, great knives. You will be missed Bill.

Thank you for everything, Mr. Moran. You were one of the good ones.

My condolences to family and friends.

We've lost a great man and a great ambassador for our hobby. But we've also been very lucky to have had someone like him.

He will be missed.

This is a sad moment. Bill was a knifemaker's knifemaker, spending almost all his life in his shop in Maryland.

He was a founding member of numerous knife making societies and worked harder than almost anyone to promote the knifemaking craft.

His convex shaped "Moran" knife edge is famous for being one of the best there is.

He coordinated with Spyderco to make their first fixed blade knife (the FB-1). He taught knife making classes at Texarkana University.

He was always willing to help new knifemakers and was involved in many demonstrations and "hammer-ins".

Few have given as much to the knife owner as Bill Moran. He will be missed by all his friends.

My condolences to his friends and family.

My condolences to his friends and family.
He was one who made this passion of ours what it is today.
The man might be gone, but his contributions will last forever.
THANK YOU Mr. Moran.

Without being overly maudlin I can say that William F Moran was for me a huge influence. He was among the first to convince me that a career in bladesmithing was indeed possible. His early catalogs and brochures are a lesson in self promotion techniques. While the art and craft of pattern welded steel had not actually been lost at any time in modern history, he was a key figure in it's revitalization on this side of the ocean and for that alone, his place in Bladesmithing history is prominent and secure.
His passing came as no surprise I'm sure to anyone, as he was of an advanced age and ill. We were not truly well aquainted, but he always had complimentary and encouraging things to say on my behalf. His was a life most well lived and I know I am richer for having been touched by his gentle and generous spirit.

You have met him. Every time you have shaken hands with a true gentleman, who had a big wide smile of welcome on his face, you have met "Bill Moran". He was truly a gentleman, who seemed to always have time to say a few words, and spend a little time at your table. He always shared whatever creation he had tucked on his belt.

Bill has passed; but his memory and legacy lives on.
