Last night I had the pleasure to have Bill & Yangdu in my home for dinner. We had a great time and they were polite enough to inspect many of my kukris and koras. Yangdu had some great insights and Bill even admitted that I might have a few OK pieces. Ah, vindication. It was great to have the guy who started me collecting kukris and writing see what he inspired and Yangdu can see more in a blade in 2 seconds than I could in an hour. Awesome.

They looked great and for this picture Bill insisted on standing in front of the koras! Isn't that some kind of blasphemy?

Thank you for taking and posting the pics, John!

What a delight!

Bill does look quite a bit thinner.....

That's great, John. I was hoping that we would hear from/about them this week. Glad you guys were able to connect.

Were you nervous?

Not nervous, but you DO have that 'WWII RAF pilot' look. But the visit MAY not have had anything to do with that.

Uncle Bill is looking a lot better than the last pic he posted.

I like the Jack in the Box head on the lamp. Nice touch. :)

Great pic of you and Bill, JP. Like the "moustache comment" johntrout made too....:D

John,
In the first photo of UB is that a hanshee he is holding? If so could you give
a brief description? Size, weight, age steel etc.
Thanks,
Mike

HI 15” Ang Khola… $125
HI 15” British Army Service… $100
HI 18” WWII $145

The honor of meeting Yangdu and Uncle Bill personally and having them inspect your Khukuri collection…. Priceless.

John, you are really a lucky man.

Nice photos! Bill looks much better.

Now, stop teasing, and tell us about that giant khukuri Bill has in his hands. :D

JP and UB shoulder to shoulder. Wow! Can you even imagine the magnitude of knowledge in that 3" space?!? Very cool:D thanks for sharin'.

The large kukri Bill is holding is a bit of a mystery. It has many aspects of a hanshee but feels like a sirupate. Although it's 25" I don't think it was made as a janawar katne at 1.75 lbs , but some type defense weapon. Bill and Yangdu agreed. The grip is very remarkable and I feel this is an early 19th c piece.

JP,

That is a wonderful piece. It looks like whomever worked up the handle was trying to imitate the wirewrap commonly found on western swords.

Wow! Despite all the health problems Uncle Bill looks about 5 years younger than the pix of him in Nepal on his website. All the doctor stuff must be helping!
