Billhooks

In the UK just about every county (region) had it's own style of Billhook that had developed over time & is now normally named after the county. As has already been said they are bit more heavy than a machete but a bit lighter & longer than an axe, many having a cutting edge than ends with a hook shape (but not always!). Hedge laying & kindling amongst the usual tasks, similar to what a hatchet is used for.
Being born & raised in the UK this was nothing new to me, but after moving to Spain many years ago I've also picked up different shapes from Spain, France & Portugal & I imagine all European countries have a variation or two.
I'll try & get a group photo.

My newest acquisition: a two-handed billhook, weight 1,94 kgs / 4,27 lbs, length 870 mm / 34,25". Hand-forged by blacksmith Eino Ränkman, Lappi TL (now Rauma), Finland, from a single piece of German-made Krupp steel.
