A person over at General Discussion has posted expressing certain opintions about Bill and Bir Gorka. You might want to look in. :(

THAT was about the slimiest post I have ever seen at Bladeforums.
Is he afraid if he went after someone still alive, they might answer his attack?

I am too upset to deal with this properly tonight.

I was going to respond to that poster by listing a bunch of reworded Bill Brasky quotes, but it seemed a little out of place.

Some people never learn, but it's when they start teaching others that I worry.

I'm sorry I read that.

It may not matter, but my apologies to everyone who lays eyes on that post...and especially to Yangdu.

The impersonality of the Internet can bring the worst out of people...

In my day, those would quite literally have been 'fighting words.' :grumpy:

I have already responded to that scummy individual. I will take the censure of the moderators if it comes.
If I was in his presence, he'd be in for a taste of motorcycle boot.

Don't think the Mods are going to be going after you. Probably some one just north of where I live.

Come over with your boots on, I can give directions.

I put my two cents in for what it's worth. I have been here since May 99 so I was here when a lot of the brouhaha started with Craig Gottlieb and Ghurka House. In my opinion Mr.SlamFire is full of excrement!:thumbdn:  :grumpy:

I think we are all being much too easy on him.
I cannot recall a more disgusting post in all my time online.

Truth is the best weapon. Yvsa and others set it straight, since facts don't really speak themselves- they need people to speak for them.

The guy knew enough to know what he was saying was wrong- which makes him a real asshat.

Mike :thumbdn:

Thanks for your help on that one, guys. Yvsa, you were the nail in the coffin. A big thank you to you:thumbup:

Nothing like logging on and having your BP shoot through the roof, eh fellas?;)

That slamfire is without a doubt a clueless troll to the umteenth degree!:thumbdn:
My memories of the few conversations on the phone with Bills DEEP voice and the kindness he showed to me as a total stranger will always be with me.
Making money seemed the furthest thing from his mind as far as I could tell.
Doing the right thing was always foremost in the dealings I experienced with this fine man.
Slamfire just reminded me of how much I miss Bill and what a great person he always was. I miss him more talking about it for some reason.
Bill would have let it wash right past him. I can't.

I would say I wasted my time reading that guy's drivel but some old timers posted responses that would have done Uncle proud. And I'm glad I read those. Bill's legacy speaks for itself.

Bill was no Saint, but a man. That is why he is worth examining; because he was a man trying to do better. That means something to all of us trying to do better. He was an honest businessman who involved HI in more than just profit. He saw the larger picture and enjoyed helping others, both directly and indirectly through the interaction of HI with the commercial market and private individuals. What he gave was inspiring to us precisely because it was obtainable and not improbable or impossible. One did not have to be Saint Augustine to give, but could give what he could.

I still remember his self admonishment which he made public; that if he couldn't conduct a business done right it would be done at all. His version of 'right' was wonderful, being successful finanacially, charitably, and in the creation of a social event of sorts, a forum of people and ideas, a refuge for the broken hearted, and a conduit for a 'pass it on' philosophy. Real help was passed on, a hand, and a positive attitude.

If that's a sleight of hand, a flim-flam, a scam, then we need more of them. Much more. With enough of these scams, the world could be changed.

My favorite story along those lines was once I got my DOTD package and besides my khuk I bought there was a 15" Sirupate in there.

I emailed to ask if they wanted me to send it on (it was in DOTD too) to whomever bought it or send it back to them.

Bill wrote back and said "Just keep it and think well of us":D

HD, Uncle Bill did stuff like that for me too. Nice guy he was. If HI is a Scam I want in on it too! When Bura got sick and wasn't able to work he and his family were cared for by HI and he got great medical care. Now he has his job back and is doing great. If it wasn't for HI's Medical fund Bura wouldn't be here with us today making some really awesome knives! Like I said earlier, if thats a Scam, I want in on it. Every year sending Clothes and supplies to Nepal for the workers and their familys..... Good stuff and Thanks!

I have a sort of similar experience like that with Uncle Bill .. and many more!

This thread reminded me of something Uncle Bill would say when some one was looking for something or asking if it existed; "I have this special (insert knife/tool you were looking for) ".

I was asking about some Khukuri want to say it was a Ganga Ram and Uncle Bill sayed "I have this Special Ganga Ram that the dust bunnies don't want but I'm sure you'd like." Hearing this would extice me to buy more and bring a BIG smile to my day! "I have a special Tarwar". Still makes me laugh and smile to this day! If you wanted something He'd go digging to see if he had it or something like it, and if not sometimes he'd even get the Kami's to send it for you.

My first Khukuri a 15" Ang Khola from Shop 1 or shop 2 (I got it in 2001 and it was 3 to 5 years old then) was a blade someone sent back because it got beat up and they couldn't fit it. Bent tip scratch all up, Split in the sheath and cracked horn handle. I made it as almost as good as new and have used it a lot. He first offered it to me for $30 but then looked at the rust on the blade and told me $20. I sent $30 cause he was so nice and Honest about it.

Was looking for another Khukuri and UB knew I didn't mind blems so he emailed me that he had a Special used Shop 2 15" Sirupati that needed some love. I snagged that one fast. If he had something he thought I'd like sometimes he would email me about it. Snagged a rare 16" Gelbu Special by the Kami with no name (3 smiths that were part time so they had the same mark) from a Deal of the Day. Both the Sirupati and GS were shipped in the same triangle box. That was an awesome morning finding two cool blades from UB in the same box.

Uncle Bill even gave me the option to send the used blades back if I didn't like them or couldn't fix them my self for a full refund or credit. If those aren't examples of good Business and trying to keep the customer happy I don't know what is. Durring the Fall and Spring years ago I used to buy the most blades. I've gotten one last Saturday and there might be more heading my way if I can swing it. Who knows I might email Yangdu to see if she has any customer returns that need a good home. :)

Count me as a Happy customer!

So ... it would seem that even ultimate cynicism has an upside.

Thanks to SlamFire, many of us noobs get to hear stories of the late, great Uncle Bill Martino.

Certainly seems like a fine man to me. :)
