i have a knife i forged out and finished, wanted to do a kydex lined rayskin sheath for it. any thoughts on bonding the 2 materials?, feasible?, possible? will it result in the implosion of the eastern seaboard? any thoughts musings , and or ideas welcome!

3m Super66 spray adhesive (or any other high bond "construction" spray). You could try rubber cement also.

Barge Glue or 1099 - I use both of them at work for bonding plastic to leather all the time - holds up for puppets

I made a few kydex lined Buffalo leather sheaths, I used a glue gun with hot melt. worked just fine. The Buffalo leather still felt smooth and soft over a hard core.

Kevin i m bonding snake skin to vegtable tan cow hide . I am using contact cement and i let it set up good once you stick it on thats it you could only remove it with a acetone base glue remover or acetone. Just ruff up the kydex and skin if its thicker and it will bond good. I found the dollar store glue is about the best bang for you buck lol

ah well then hells, i thought there would be some long convoluted and super secret squirrel steps i needed to perform after making a sacrifice on the altar of knifemakers to get the two to stick and stay. If i can get something that doesn't look like a dogs dinner i'll post the results. Thanks again

That's only on the second Tuesday after a blue moon during the winter solstice. The rest of the time it's just easy....

Kevin,

I haven't been out at Robert's in a while--glad to hear you have finished some of those blades you forged. Post a pic if you get a chance.

Are you shaping the kydex before bonding the leather or can you bond the leather flat and then heat and shape the composit?

try laying the leather side down on dry ice and place the kydex on top. Heat the kydex with a blow torch until it melts and bonds onto the leather. The dry ice is simply used to keep the leather cool. No glues needed.

I cant believe you guys are letting me get away with my last post. You're a bunch of "weenies"! Come on.:D

Hi Bruce, I just have a mapp torch. Do you think that would work ok. Have you ever tried that technique with regular ice.

Thanks for any help, Craig
