After the popularity of last summer's run of birch bark handled knives, I decided to make a few more.

"As many of you know, birch bark is a traditional rot-resistant handle material that has been used in Finland for at least a few hundred years. You can often find it laying in the forest in vast tubes, where the tree it grew on has long since decayed. The feeling as a grip material is not unlike cork, and is quite light, and very beautiful, especially in direct sunlight."

The blades are forged from 1084, and ground all the way to an edge. I put secondary bevels purely for convenience of sharpening. Despite the thin edge, I have left the spines fairly thick on them at a little under 3/16 of an inch, giving them a sturdy feel. The tang is peened tightly to compress the birch bark into place.

They come with hand stitched veggie tanned leather sheaths which are coated with beeswax to repel water and stiffen them. Plus I think beeswax is the prettiest stain!

I don't think I'll be able to make these again for a while, so get 'em while they last!

Materials:
1084
birch bark
brass

They all have 3 3/4" blades
OAL 8 1/4"
Thickness 3/16"

$195 each shipped

I prefer paypal and my email is lukethebladesmith@yahoo.com

These are ground on only one side (chisel) or are full-flat on both sides before the microbevel?

The one on the left is available, and the middle one is spoken for if the buyer can gather funds. I'll update this thread if the deal goes through.

Those are absolutely superb BUSHCRAFT knives, and the birch bark is just the cherry on top. Who says you can't have your cake and eat it too?
