I'm curious do you have pics of the tang ? I'm looking to make one of these not quite sure how to shape the tang. Also was this several pieces of birch ?

Thanks for the comments guys.

mastermachetier - this is the blade before I put the bark. Yes, there are around 100 - 120 pieces of bark (depending on the thickness of the bark and the lenght of the handle). The next time I make handle like this, I'll do "work in progress" thread :)

Thanks for the nice words guys.
Juha , its one of my favourite handle materials too. The reasons are: - it feels warm and nice in the hand , it looks good and it's the only material that smells nice when I grind it :D
Here is one fully finished and with sheath:

Hey guys , this time I'll show you 2 more puukkos that I made for friends of mine. The technical information is almost the same with minor differences in the size.
Im realy happy with the pattern on the handle of the first knife. The trick is that I alternated 3 types of bark with different thickness and color .

Steel - RWL - 34 60-61 HRC
OAL - 247mm (~9.7")
Blade 124x24.5x5.1mm (~4.9"x0.96''x0.2'') rhombic grind
Blade finish - P800.
Handle - birch bark and bronze
Sheath - cow leather

Nice work, beautiful knives. Interested when you have more for sale. Especially like the first knife posted on May 8. Handle material in second knife from same date is darker....oil or different wood? Great stuff.

Thank you sir, Yes the bark is different. The first one is made of 3 different types of bark and the second one is made of single type of bark and then treated with danish oil. I plan to make some toward the middle of the month.
