Hey guys, I typically wet sand with an oil finish to fill up pores in my handles and it has been working great. Making a wa handle atm out of all African blackwood and I know the stuff doesn't like oil finishes. Here I have it sanded up to a nice grit, a quick wipe on/wipe off coat of an oil finish and a thin coat of paste wax. Would the Birchwood Casey wood sealer/filler fill all these open pores or should I re-sand this guy and try a CA finish? Would more paste wax fill it? Just not too sure, I've used unsealed japanese magnolia (ho wood) handles in kitchens for years with no problems so I don't see it really causing an issue. If there is a fix I'd love to fix it though! Here's some pics so you guys can see the pores. I also hand buff and do not have a buffer, will probably be picking up a HF buffer and some pink scratchless compound just for handles in the near future though.
Thanks,

(You guys really have been an amazing help for a new maker)

Upon lots of reading using the custom search it seems I just need to leave it alone or get a power buffer :P.

being oily, i do not think the ca glue would stick well. the buffer would not get rid of the scratches. i think it looks nice as it is !

I just sand my blackwwod smooth and buff. I never use any finish or sealer on it.

handsand to 12000 with micromesh and be amazed how beautiful blackwood can be

What I discovered by accident early on was that while oil might not create a hard "finish"on some woods, in some cases, it can darken the wood if that is what you are looking for. I noticed that with blackwood and unstabilized amboyna burl. Now for REALLY gummy woods like Argentine lignum vitae, that kind of ugly natural color will typically come back.

I just sanded up to 2k and gave it 3 coats of paste wax. Looks pretty damn good imo. Just wasnt sure if the pores/veins would cause any problems before.

Looks nice! FYI I have abunch of Japanese wa handled kitchen knives made of rosewood and cocobolo none of which have the grain filled. And since most of the blacksmiths there just buy pre-made handles for instalation, they don't seem to be a problem even with the unfilled grain pores.
