I have been using Birchwood Gun Stock oil and Bees Wax on my stabilized wood scales. I usually do 3-4 coats of oil sanded with 800 grit between coats. Then I do Beeswax and hand polish with a cloth.

Are there better ways to finish stabilized scales? What method do you use? I would welcome any ideas.

I've been sanding to 1000, buffing lightly with blue compound, oiling once with Danish oil and then I hand buff in a coat of trewax the next day. I like how they turn out and the oil and wax seem to help everything pop out. But I quit sanding between coats of oil or "carding" like you would do with unstabilized woods.
