silverLighT thanks for the comments and questions. The term bird&trout can be taken several ways.My take is more size of knife than actual literal use ie. for trout, One could certainly use it for that - being a high carbon steel blade it's not as rust resistant as stainless steel. Also, this knife is a bit thicker at the spine, flat ground to a fine edge which makes it thick enough to be stiff and not as flexible as a typical filet knife. It is more of a EDC type knife. Small, light weight, easy to carry....
When I forge most of my blades I usually drop the edge and keep a defined ricasso - so yes, I guess it is makers preference.
