I have not posted much lately so i thought i would show this knife.
It is stock removal from 1080 this knife was made to fit the scales from a Joseph Rodgers pruning knife.
These sambar scales are at least 119 years old and were looking for a new home.
The o.a.l. is 8" with a 4" blade one piece guard and bolsters where cast in place using lead free solder.

Thanks. I made one recently that I think was a bit too small, but the customer claimed it was just right. This is more along the lines of what I'd expect. I love it, a wonderful knife.

So - How'd you cast the solder guard? ;)

I used a cerial box to make a rough mold taped to the scales and blade.
Then melted the lead free solder in an old stainless soup ladle modified with a nice fine spout and poured it in as fast as i could. After taking off the mold which was bigger than i needed there were a couple of voids. I was going to chisel it off and try again when my wife suggested using my Weller soldering gun to try and fill the holes. Well she hit it right on it worked great.
I then sanded and filed to shape rubbed on some Fc. to age it and the pins.
And that is all there is to it. I have another one i'm going to do in a couple of weeks and will make up a tutorial on it with lots of pics.

ps there are 2 holes under the casting for the solder to flow through to keep it tight.
