All of these pattern specific threads got me to thinking. I don't recall seeing a thread on Fish and Bird patterns. Bring 'em on!!

Very nice. I've been wondering if anyone was going to post. I'm not a bird hunter, so you'll have to help me out. Do those hooks really work when cleaning a bird?

Here's my Montero Bird & Trout made by Terry Primos:

Maybe I am not "genteel" enough. Used them on trout to get against the backbone but just use finger for quail, dove and pheasant.

300B,
Sounds genteel enough to me..:D

Flyfishrman,
Here is one of several I bought many, many moons ago that I never got to use.

Late 1970's Camillus stockman slippy from their 'American Wildlife Series'..

That Gerber Trout and Bird sure brings back some memories....how do you like W.J.'s knife? Looks to be a great user.

Here's an odd one. I really don't know much about it. It has a tang stamp, but I can't read it(no magnifying glass).

I have always thought the bird pattern was pretty cool.
I have only been bird hunting a few times so I am unclear to how one would use the hook.
Can someone elighten me? It is my intent to do more small game hunting in 2008 although it will be mostly shotgunning as most small game in Ca cannot be taken with a .22; too bad.

billym, the hook is used to draw the guts out of a bird, you insert the hook, and twist it arroung the guts and then pull them out, a length of wire works just as well. A forked stick can be used. Joe

Joe,
Kind of what I figured. Thanks for the info.

I love it. It's one of my favorites that I hope stays in the family. I think I'm going to get it engraved. As far as a user, absolutely:):).

Sunnyd, that type of knife has been made in Lebanon for quite some time. The newer (60's to now) have plastic inlays, the older ones (mine is from the 40's) have coral and stone inlays.

Here's a Utica Fish Knife with Rough Black Scales and a Puma Bird Knife With Cocobolo Scales.

Just for filetting fish - here's my Schrade MA5 which has seen some fishy guts during it's life:
