Took Maisy for a quick walk today and snapped a few pics....

Came across this little fella, he was just learning to fly and didn't know if he should try and fly away or sit quiet and hope I couldn't see him !!!

The blossom was out on the Blackberry bushes.....

I will make sure to come back when these Thimbleberries are ripe, if the birds don't eat them all first !!!

C'mon I thought someone would have answered my berry question by now......at least tell me if I'll need a stomach pump if I try them !!!!

the first picture is funny :) reminds me of a story for little kids
what did the bird do eventually?

Looks like it may be Vaccinium parvifolium, red huckleberry. One site I found is sharingwood.org wild berries. Found this looking under wild berries, pacific northwest.
If it is a vaccinium, they are all edible, each berry should have a tiny 5-pointed scar at the end of the berry where the bloom fell off before the plant ovary developed into a fruit. Another pic that looks very close is under www.fs.fed.us. I also looked at vaccinium parvifolium, images on the net, a good way to find dozens of sites to check out. Plant guides at a library, etc. should have more info for a positive ID. Maybe some places that sell fruit bearing shrubs can help, too. Sometimes it can take a lot of checking before I'm sure enough to try new plant. Good luck, enjoy the seach and be carefull.

I have a bush here that's obviously in the blueberry family. Leaves , flowers, berries look exactly like a blueberry except that the berries are green even when fully ripe. And they're tasteless !!

Washington is full of wonderful berries that you can eat and the huckel berry is one of them, they are found any where there has been a clear cut or on the edge of a forest, they seem to perfer sunshine, but I have found them out in the open. Wait until they get nice and red and have a handfull, they are slightly sour but are very good, makes good jam also.

Mete, that sounds like maleberry (an unfortunate name, I know, but that's what it's called).
