Yep, it was a block of worm holed Bird's Eye Maple last summer. Slowly been working it to size. Then, I soaked it in Minwax wood Hardener for a couple days. Probably about 8 to 10 hours into this set. My nicest one to date. I screwed up in a couple small places. It's a gift for a BeckerHead. He'll chime in if he wants to, only he doesn't know it's coming. Be my Valentine.

Really tried hard to keep the sizing right on these in terms of thickness. They are within 1/64" in 9 different spots. I had my calipers out every 60 seconds at the end.

Buffed these to a nice shine on my carhart pants, after wiping them down with mineral oil.

I'm happy with the hex holes for the nuts on these, definitely getting better at that. That was NIX Leather on that last set of pictures.

I had a quart paint can half full of that Minwax Wood Hardener, once I got the scales down to about 1/32 of the thickness I wanted I tossed them into the can and hammered the lid on. Let it sit for a couple days to soak in, that's it. Not a real stabilization, but should protect it some. I also let it dry for a few days once I took it out of the can.

Oh, the patience... the patience!

Heh, the 5th was my birthday. But I don't know you that well yet, and I make my own scales to boot. Grats, that's a nice piece of maple. Are you going to die it or anything?
