This thread is closed now. Any remaining pieces will be moved to our webstore.

This is something unusual I just got from one of my wood suppliers in Hawaii.
Very unusual. It looks different from different angles. That is why I took extra photos of these 4 pieces. It still looks a lot nicer in person. This is natural wood, it has not been stabilized. Cutting and sanding it felt noticeably harder and heavier than normal Koa. It had a stronger smell as well. The wood is very flashy with nice coloring. It will look even better when you fine sand and apply a finish. My supplier recommended using Waterlox as the best finish for Koa.

These pieces have been sanded to 120 grit and sprayed with a light coat of lacquer for a bit of added protection. These blocks have traveled from Hawaii to Oregon and next to wherever you are. You should give them at least a month or more to settle to your climate before using.

All of these pieces come with a no questions asked, money back guarantee.

Free Shipping Worldwide!

If you need your blocks cut into scales, I can do that for you at no charge. I normally cut scales about 3/8” thick unless requested otherwise. If you need scales cut please indicate that in your post.

When you see blocks you want to get, just post “I’ll take #s ….” and I will mark them sold for you. If you signed up in the “Save the Burl Guy” thread please state that in your post so I will know to give you your extra discount.

I think I've seen that grain pattern called 'blister'. Kind of looks like mini quilting, rather than maple type birdseye. Anyway, very rare and can be quite the looker.

Nice catch, Craig

The supplier called it birdseye but Craig's calling it blister is a better description.
It is really unusual. First look it looks pretty cool but then when you move it around it looks like little holographic blisters all over it.
I am saving some for my own projects because I was only able to get a little bit.
I think I am going to have to satisfy my curiosity and sand a piece to about 1000 and see what it looks like with an oil finish.
