As it turns out, I have a birthday approaching - my 40th, in fact. My wife has also just recently reached this milestone, as well. This means we have now known each other for half our lives. To celebrate a bit, I'd like to give away a pair of Old Timers (heh, heh...)

What we have here is a 33OT Middleman jack and a 104OT Minuteman (the little one). The 33OT has a good patina on both blades; the Minuteman is pretty much still all shiny.

This GAW is open to all regular Trad people. While there are no requirements to win, it might be neat to hear what is your favorite aspect about being the age you are. On my impending birthday, I'll generate a random number to pick a winner.

Here they are:

Not an entry, but I, too, am approaching 40. My wife is 3 years ahead of me, and we passed our "Half-lives" together a couple years ago.

I have to say that I love being this age. My kids are to the ages that they are really great communicators and I'd rather spend time with them, more than anyone else, my wife excepted. I enjoy going on Boy Scout camping trips with them, watching "Dr. Who" with them, and just hanging out. ( 4 boys, ages 5-13). I am completely secure in my job, and in no danger of losing it (a huge weight of responsibility taken care of) and it's a great job with plenty of good people, and, though the challenges aren't what they used to be, it's still fun.

I'm starting to look toward retirement, and seeing that things are progressing nicely in a good direction, with not too many worries. My house will be paid off in less than 10 years. Bills are tight, but not so that I am overly worried all the time, like a few years ago.

Yes, being 40 is great! :D

Congrats on reaching this milestone. I hope you are also enjoying the benefits that come with a little time and wisdom!

Happy birthday! I believe I'm in the minority here, being 16 years old. I love it because I'm fortunate to have some of the greatest friends, parents, and mentors in the world, people I learn stuff from every day, sometimes against my will, but almost always to my benefit :) They're giving me the opportunity to see what integrity and maturity look like, and I'm blessed to have 'em around me. Not an entry, I've already entered more than my share. Happy birthday!

At 33 I don't know that there is a lot to love about this age to be honest because my mind still wants to do all the things I used to do but my body is kind of reaching a turning point where it doesn't necessarily want to do all those things anymore and makes me pay for it when I do them anyway. My soon to be wife is 23 so sometimes that age gap can be a pain because she thinks she knows everything and I actually do know everything... LOL jk :) We have a 15 month old son so overall I'd say my favorite part about this stage of my life is just spending time with my family and all the knowledge and life lessons I've learned over the years. Being able to slow down and actually enjoy life these last few years has been great too.

Thanks for this giveaway very generous of you!

At 62 the only time I feel this old is when the pain of the arthritis in my thumbs overcomes the pain- killerz... Traditionals are more manageable for me than some of those OHO moderns! Besides I'm a traditionalist at heart where knives are concerned. I guess this Old Timer needs an Old Timey, Old Timer some days! Thank for the opportunity!

I'm 25, and I don't have much to say about my age, but I'm drawn to this thread because my grandfather always carried a minuteman and it brings back fond memories of him. Thanks for the thread.

Happy 40th

Happy Birthday, and thanks for the opportunity to own an old timer Schrade! I've been curious what all the hoopla is over these knives, so I am definitely in.

One of my favorite aspects of being 38 years old is that I can still party as if I were 18 but now I am much better at. :very_drunk:

Never owned an OT so I'll throw in, thanks for the chance. Best part about being in my mid-20s is the chance to travel while still relatively unattached to any one spot ( I am still gonna travel around later in life but it will never be as easy as it is now, I think). Happy birthday!

My grandmother always told my father, don't get old. He said he is glad to defy his mother on that one every day, but he agrees with her, at the age of 60!

I am 33, until I turn 34 next month. 33 is the year of my life that I almost kicked the bucket, and came back with a new appreciation for life.

A belated Happy Birthday to your missus Blaine, and hope you have a great 40th. This is not an entry, you've been very kind to me already :) I'm in my fifties. Still here, just, unlike many of my old friends. Not really a great deal wiser than I was in my youth, and I'd trade the little wisdom I have to be 17 again in an instant! Getting older does have a few advantages however...

35 here. Feeling less awkward every year!

50 will be nice, I think.

One day I'll be dignified and old.

Happy Birthday, Blaine! I hope you celebrate the day as it deserves :)

Thanks for the chance, I´m in :)

This is home on a beautiful day in spring

I´ll have my big day in a couple of weeks when I´m getting 30... somehow strange to have a "3" in front of the age.

Well done Blaine, Old Timers eh :D not an entry though as others' needs are greater than mine.

Light years ago I was 40....but what can you do? You must keep moving:thumbup:

Thanks for the chance. Turning 44 on the 26th of this month.

Being this age, I am secure in the knowledge that while I may not be as good as I once was, I am good enough once as I ever was.

Ha! Aging does take away some awkwardness, or maybe it's just that we don't care if we're awkward or not.

I'll be 33 later this month. I'm enjoying this age and getting to spend time with my boys as they grow. I'm not looking forward to getting older but I'm not dreading it either. I just try to enjoy the present and enjoy the fact that I'm still growing too. :)

26. Happier than ever. Been off the drugs and booze for awhile. No legal woes to speak of. Got the swellest, cutest ladyfriend around, a nice set of bicycle wheels, and a river in my backyard to splash around in. Working a dead-end job, but that's alright rent is cheap and I can still afford to pick up a new blade every now and then. Not too much to worry about. The gods are being very nice to me for the time being~

Thanks much for the opportunity!

Jon

I am mid thirties.

I much preferred my mid 20's! I was much buffer, skinnier (by 100+ lbs), and had more hair. My knees and back were stronger!

But, I like being done with school. (though I don't like paying for it now that I am done!)

Thanks for the giveaway.
