Dear forumites family and friends you are invited to join me on memory lane on September 23 rd to celebrate Uncle Bill's Birthday. Perhaps you who knew him would like to share a happy thought of him with others. From my closest friend Marie comes these comments (with) her permissions - " I remember Bill from those great days in CA, so handsome, so honest hospitable - warm and friendly and most of all his love for you. He surely must be happy with the way you all have continued the his dream. Thank you for the memories I have of the good times. No one will ever take his place in your heart but I do hope you will find another special someone and I really think Bill want you would too. Only Happy memories on the 23 rd."

What a great lookin' bunch of knives. It's truly a spread like Uncle Bill would lay out from time to time:thumbup::D

It's a tired story, but what I remember most about Uncle Bill is that he was always a handshake kind of business man. Unlike so many other people and places of business, Uncle Bill saw the good in men and trusted them to pay their debts. Did he get burned by this business practice? Sure. From time to time. However, that simple act of trust gained him so much respect in the eyes of men and women who valued such principle.

As a young and impressionable college junior, I bought my first HI from Uncle Bill. I had sent him an e-mail at the spur of a moment and very luckily landed a highly prized and coveted villager. Fate is what brought me into the HI fold that day. As I read and learned and had more and more dealings with Uncle Bill and Yangdu, I began admiring their "old fashion" business practice. That you could run a successful and profitable business and NOT cut the throat of your customers really hit home with me. As the "heir" to a family business myself, I used what I had learned from Uncle Bill and have done my best to pass the same kind of kindness and trust along to my own customers.

I have to say, it's worked wonderfully. Now over 5 and a half years later, I'm deeper into the HI rabbit hole than I ever thought possible. I still think of Uncle Bill fondly. I still pass on stories of his generosity. I still try to run my business in a way that reflects his philosophies of duty and compassion.

A man that I never "met", whose voice I never heard, inspired me to above all else do good, to improve myself.

Happy Birthday Uncle Bill. A green bottle raised in your honor this evening.

Debt is good, right? What the heck;) Email sent on 12" AK by Bura.

Some great blades up for grabs. A WWII with a chirwa handle is very rare and I don't recall seeing a full size balance (or the small ones..) for awhile.

Sadly, I arrived after Bill but I can imagine he was super based on comments made about him and the quality of HI.

Bill passed shortly after I discovered HI and this forum. I genuinely regret not having the chance to know him better.

Happy Birthday Bill!
"Cattle die,kinsmen die,
and you yourself shall die.
But fair fame never dies
for the one who wins it."

I did not discover HI and this forum until after Uncle bill. It is one of my deepest regrets that I never got the chance to get to know him.

I've heard so many great things about Uncle Bill, it's a fitting tribute to see so many people who never met him in person pay tribute to him....Also, great deals on great knives.

She sure does know how to pry the money out of our wallets, eh?
lol, well I can't say that it was much of an arm twist;)

I've found my arm twisted several times during DotDs...mainly from reaching for my wallet too quickly or shaking my fist at the screen when I miss one!

I haven't been acquainted with Himalayan Imports or this particular part of Bladeforums for very long. Consequently I've had no first-hand dealings or communication with Uncle Bill. It sounds like he was a good guy.

However it was through the good things I read here and on the Himalayan Imports home page that prompted me to make my first purchase from H.I.

Those are beautiful blades in the pictures above. Now the answer may be staring at me somewhere, but I can't figure out what "UBB" means after the prices quoted for the various items. Can somebody please tell me what it means?

Thanks in advance...Coote.

Bill was a unique individual. What I remember most was his easy-going nature. He rarely got upset, at least online with what the rest of us perceived as attacks on HI.

I only talked to him once on the phone, but what a voice. Low and rich, it pierced you deeply.

Over the years I collected some of Bill's frequent one-liners. I've posted them before, but I hope they'll bring a smile to the face of folks who knew Bill from the forum.

Blessings from the computer shack in Reno.

Can't help.

Always good help.

Thanks for good help.

It's old Uncle Bill back at the screen.

Some beautiful stuff and thanks.

More good help and thanks. The forumites know more than I do.

Great stuff and thanks.

Have a happy.

Grainline is just that and not a crack. Might develop into crack but doubt it. Superglue should fix it if it does.

The dust bunnies are not the least bit interested but I think this is good stuff and thanks.

"We're all brothers and sisters that walk on this planet no matter our race, creed, religion, ignorance, or what."
That's the way we should live our lives and the way we should behave on this forum....

Bruise has a ten pound hammer you might borrow to try to loosen it up.

"Probably because we're all conditioned to want whatever we see on TV."
Especially some of the girls.

Nice stuff and thanks.

Good stuff and thanks.

Always good and expert help around. Thanks.

Mine go under the bed, too, cared for by the infamous dust bunnies.

Hell, you're just a kid.

Interesting stuff and thanks.

Too bad it's only the cajones.

I had fantasies about retiring out as the world's oldest porn star but had to give them up as I hear parts transplanted from elephants do not work well on humans.

That's the way most people did business when I was a kid. I just never grew up.

Many thanks for report from the field.

Beautiful work, Sarge, and thanks for sharing.

That which was lost is found.

Pen, you are a man of many talents.

Good stuff from one of the good guys.

Advice from dust bunnies -- leave everything alone. Nice pix.

Fine, detailed report from the field.

The dust bunnies said they'd take it when you got tired of it.

It's a hell of a world we live in today.

Today's the day that changed our lives forever.

What do I know?

Prayers work.

First things first.

I'll leave the humping to the younger set.

What the hell's wrong with the pictures? Back to the drawing board.

I have this special trail clearing khukuri........
I have this special Hanshee........
I have this special villager……..

Brendan, you won't like it

Can't find a thing wrong with it, but Yangdu says it's a blem, so it is.

Five minutes worth of rust removal saves you $100.

Good for a hundred years.

Thirty cents a day and all the rice you can eat.

No thanks to the Nepali shipping staff.

The kamis probably used it to fire the forge.

Sorry. GTT = gone to Texas.

Debt is good.

One more time -- debt is good.

Can't remember that far back.

The dust bunnies are experts.

Holy Toledo!

It looks like the Caveman is back full force.
Your problem is you like everything -- even one legged dancing girls - and once in a great while even me.

Remember, many times what we view as a curse in the present turns out to be a blessing in the future. Don't worry about it a lot. Things have a way of working out. Trust me on this one.

It may take me out but I'll be damned if I'm going to let it scare me. Just pass the Camels, Heineken and the morphine and I'll be fine.
Just live the adventure with me and try to benefit in some way from it.
What has this to do with khukuris? Everything!"

All gone. Stay tuned.

Great stuff and thanks, Steve.

HBD, UB. You changed a lot of peoples lives for the better.

Thanks in advance...Coote.

"UBB" or "UBBB" stands for Uncle Bill Best Buy. Uncle Bill used to use this as a way to show that the selling price was really a special deal, far lower than what you would normally see it. Yangdu uses it now (YBB);)

Steve, thanks for those quotes. I hadn't read through them in a couple of years.
