Hey all,

Ok... I started lurking here as a result of a post about hawks on another forum. Now I'm hooked. I got a new trailhawk the other day and today I received a new Craig Barr hawk. Is there anything I need to do before I install it onto the new haft? (that's the handle right?) If I want to stain it, should that be done before putting it on? How do I insure a good solid fit? I know these sound like stupid questions but I really am ignorant of these things.
Thanks!

Since no one else has posted, I'll take a stab at it...

I'm a newbie to hawks too, but my guess is you should stain it first. Also, check out this post: Getting a tight hawk fit

It should help you get a better fit; though, I'd doubt you'd have to do any filing or sanding to the head... just try the cooling and heating (of course, don't heat the head on a flame or anything).

Let us know how it goes, and definitely post some pics! I really admire his damascus hawks... good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I got a bit a head of myself and put it on before I read it, but I will definitely try this method next time. The hawk head seems to be on fairly solid. I will find out when all this snow melts and I can set up a target out in the yard. Here is a couple pics of the newest hawk along with my trailhawk.
