Hello all. I'm looking for some suggestions from those more knowledgeable than myself on models to look into on the exchange for a hunting/whatever-else-comes-up-while-I'm-hunting knife.

My thoughts thus far are a 6-ish inch blade with full height flat or convex grind, choil or small choil. So far my known contenders are the SAR6 and the BJBG (when it comes out). Opinions on the SAR6 would be most appreciated. Are there any other models that I should educate myself about?

Thanks in advance for the insights.

The SAR-6 is a great knife. If that is the one calling to you than that should be the one, it certainly won't fail you. Another one you may want to consider is an Infidu (INFI version of a Ratmandu). The blade is only 5.25", but it's a really great all around knife. I had a Basic 6 as well, but it really didn't do it for me so I moved it along down the line. The choil seemed too big to me on the Basic 6, and I really like micarta or g10 on that sized knife. All are great options.

I'd considered the basic 6, and it's not out of the running, but I've always liked a drop or clip point for field dressing. I should have mentioned that in my first post. I just worry that a straight spine might not get along with muscle memory from over 25 years of using mostly drop points for the job. I might have to reconsider. They seem very highly thought of. Thanks for the insight.

if your set on those grinds.. I have nothing to add to what those guys recommended^^ but if not I love the SOB(nice belly for skinning) Infi RMD, if you don't mind slightly smaller the ergo mini muk, or War Train Handcar seem to be great skinning designs.. also I always suggest to noobs that they don't underestimate the Battle Grade Busse's/ Swamp Rat and Scrapyard blades as SR101 is much much tougher than people tend to realize.. INFI is great for stain resistance and is worthy of its reputation.. but you could get a small and mid sized hunting pair of "battle grade" blades for about what one mid sized INFI blade will run..just my 2cents

A big thanks for all the responses so far. Another thing I hadn't thought to consider until now is handle size. I wear a size xl glove and find a lot of handles too small to be really comfortable without being wrapped in something to give it more girth. I'm not afraid to cover a beautiful handle if need be, but it is a consideration.

I think Busse's tend to fit large hands well as Jerry Busse has big hands...

How about an Axe Hammer or Jack Hammer, SJTAC also a BATAC comes to mind

I love the SAR 6 and 4. Like the 4 better for an all around hunting camp knife. Much larger than you would think it to be.

Hmmm, clip point ya say?... Euro Basic 6 it is!!!

My current favorite!!!;)

Is it kosher to mention other maker's models as an example of blades I've used in the past and liked or not liked to give a better idea of my taste?

LOL. Sometimes you put a big smile on my face guy.

CABS would get my vote. BATAC would fill your need. SAR 6 is a great blade. B6 is the only resC model I moved on to the trough
