Bitch This!

OK, so I have been in this forum since practically the first day, I also have been around knifeforums since it was just a butterknife. Back in the day (Now I sound Old) you could purchase a benchmade CQC7, then come to the boards and post it for $20 under retail. Someone would buy it, or trade you something for it that had equal or greater value.

NOW

You have to post the thing for $20 under what the freaking thing would sell for wholesale ... and only expect to get dumb offers in return. A freaking Benchmade 812FS AFCK NIB will get you a trade offer of three photons II's. Jezzzz is it just me or is this board now only for VULTURES? At this point I would rather give the knives away (Don't ask, I already have in the past) at least then it would be making someone truly happy.

Had to vent ... it's been eating at me, literally!

If this keeps up, I am going to start collecting and trading dolls. At least then I know I will get what my Pokemon Pekachu is worth!!!!

Too true, then there all the "know it all's" who just waste your time when they never planned to buy in the first place.

Hmm ... maybe you should buy a gross of Photon IIs and trade them for 48 NIB AFCKs ... and open a knife shop ... that sounds like a good business plan to me ... I might try that myself.

Although it's certainly understandable that people are often excited when they post here and may not be inclined to be moderate in their language, please keep in mind this forum is read by all kinds of people and try to keep the profanity to a minimum. There are children who read this forum and the parents of those same children read it too, and those parents hassle me in email about the language some posters use here -- not that I mind a little hassle but frankly I think they have a point. This isn't your local bar, this is more like talking to a crowd of all kinds of people on the street ... some of them have just come out of a poolhall, and some of them have just come from church ... let's try to use language suitable for public speaking even when we get excited.

Hmm... HC, if you cut off the dog's other testicle, it might be worth a Cold Steel of some sort.

No, the testicle would be worth more.

Ryan, I agree that things are leaning toward the bargain basement/yard sale mentality.
I remember when I sold a LNIB MT SOCOM for $130. I had some joker offer me $80 for it b/c in his opinion it was a used knife. It's okay if people want to haggle a little bit, but gimme a break!
Reminds me of a Dennis Miller rant where he was tempted to charge a pubic hair for something just so I can hear another Human Being say would you take half a pubic hair for that?

I have only sold and not bought (or even made an offer) on the for sale forum. The knives I have sold have all been higher quality blades (CRK, customs, etc) that were all impulse buys and quite frankly "mistakes". I priced them for what I think were reasonable prices (for a buyer) and have sold everyone for the listed price. Sure I got lots of zany offers but what do you expect? Expecting high prices on common factory knives (sight unseen) is a little naive, especially when there are so many low cost dealers on the net. Unless you have a lot of knife collecting friends I don't know a better way to sell knives than the for sale forum. The key is to price them competitively.

I do not think the problem lies with so much of what is offered,it is how it is offered.Seems like there is a lot of youngsters on the forums. No problem in that except their mommy's and daddy's did not teach them to respect their elders.
This whole thing of being able to communicate on this internet thing brings new meaning to rude.I have a problem with certain people saying things on this medium, and not being held responsible. Some of the things that are said should be said to the person face to face.I like it better face to face.IMO

I agree with Nifrand! I should screen my trades better, I got burned by a juvie. Ryan, I got some Paki SAK copies I would trade you for your... oh wait, that wasn't you that had the three legged, one nutted dog...

I feel your pain....last week I had an adult basically tell me I was trying to rip him off because I was asking 89.99 for a NIB knife I bought at wholesale for 77.50+shipping. He said the knife was retailing everywhere for 69.99...guess I just paid too much..having done the brick and mortar retail gig for almost 25 years, I rekon I am clueless on purchasing products for resale. md (at least I didn't get flamed here as a crook... )

Nifrand has it right. I don't think it's the offers they make, but the way in which they make their offer. I'm only 21, but I think I understand respect...especially since I've never met many of the people here in person, it's important to be respectful of one another. Every time I put something up for sale recently I get email like "I'll give you $X, take it or leave it." Where $X is about 3/4 of what I'm asking and much less than what it's worth.

I guess with 11,000+ members the forums are changing.

Geez Ryan, the Photon II was the only thing I had lying around NIB near that price... Didn't have to use me as an example.

(Joke)

I've noticed an awful lot of 'disrespectful' stuff as well. In addition to the lowball with harsh deliveries I've also noticed a TON of people emailing with offers or requests for information who then blow you off with no return info or whatever and just leave you hanging! I at least try to be respectful and courteous but it seems like some of these clowns don't have a clue.

I think you guys have a point on the medium. People feel impervious here and so just flop out a reply or remark with basically a 'screw you attitude' whereas my communication usually leans on MORE courteous communication because there is the chance for misommunication and subsequent pissing someone off.

I see it everywhere anymore though... You get your food and change tossed at you from any fast-food place and upon complaining to Corporate you're given 'free coupons' so you have to go back and endure the same treatment again. If you do get an intelligent person who wants to help they only want to know 'who' you had a problem with instead of recognizing that the person and their actions are a direct result of mis-management in the first place. No-one says thanks or have a nice day or anything anymore either... It's just "Here's your crap now get out or park over there and someone will bring you your food now that we've got your money!" What the????!!!! Evidently in America we've made Corporations so rich they have no fear nor concern anymore and it filters right on down! I can walk into pretty much any seedy bar and get more courteous service than I can with even the higher end restaurants or other type businesses. Pitiful!

My kids are 6 and 9 and I'm on their butts about courtesy, "Pleases", "Thank Yous", etc and if they forget they get to take whatever it was back or I ask the waitress to take their food away and come back in a few when they've remembered their manners.

What kinda place do we have when irresponsibility, discourtousy, illiteracy, and indifference are the norms?

Next time someone says 'Please' or 'Thank You' I think I'll cut the price of my blade in half just to promote their actions hoping it will multiply!

When and if you get an offer that is to low, just tell that person, and stick by your price. Why get so bent out of shape over a low counter offer?

Today it seems you have to keep a sharp pencil handy while doing buisness on the internet. This is the flip side of the double edge sword called the information highway. But think of how many people are now getting a chance to see what you are offering at no cost on your part. I think it is a small price to pay.

On the other hand the forums give people a way of doing buisness without any overhead or the cost of a third person to broker the deal. Who doesn't want to save a few bucks.

With that said there are risks of buying from the private forums, that you don't get from a dealer.

To me as a buyer the cost of the knife should reflect that savings, so why not make offers with that in mind. If I should later have to turn around and sell a high end knife to a dealer he will make me an offer that leaves some room for his profit later.

Keep in mind that most of the kool production knives don't cost very much to produce at the source.

If on the other hand you are offering a product or something outstanding, just be patient and hold your price and treat everyone as if they are a potential customer and try to have fun, or maybe you should go and play with the dolls! But why would you think people buying them are going to be any different??

I have made several nice deals over the net with great satisfaction. I find that this is a very small community of us knife nuts, we should keep in mind what goes around comes around!!

Happy trading smile !!

Several people have tried to sell a used knife that sells for much less new from places like www.midsouthshooterssupply.com or www.discountknives.com . Check around before you buy and sell

.
My only problem is when people don't get back with you on a sale. I have no problem with people changing their minds, just do the seller a favor and let him know.

I have been burned on Ebay but not here so far.

I never haggle. If I don't like the price, I ignore it. If I don't know the seller or if he is offering a Randal knife for $100, I ignore it. If it is too good to be true than it probably is.

On the other hand when I see names I recognize like Brian or dave or Jim, etc....It's a done deal, no worries at all. That is why I always check their sales first.

Being one of the newbies that has had it both ways. I started out get roasted paying ungodly prices for garbage. then I came here and just read and read and learned and learned and now I am finally at that point where I know what a good production knife is. I still have no clue yet what a REAL (custom) knife is and you can bet I will be bothering you guys for Months before I buy my first $5,000 one of a kind. But if I bid on a Benchmade first run and there is no reserve and the knife goes for $40.00 am I the one to blame? Go ahead, I am new so flame my tushy, but just keep in mind, YOU GUYS have all been educating me !!!!!.....wolf
