Biting the Apple...

My sister bought an iMac when the translucent one came out. She also bought the extended warranty.... thankfully. It took THREE harddrive failures to assure me that that series was a load of crap. The third was just out of the warranty. Isn't that special.... :barf:

But. Harrumph to ALL of you. I'm feeling pretty smug now that all my computer woes will be gone forever.... :jerkit: :p ;)

(Just poking at myself, too.)

Holger, I understand completely.

I recently switched from pc to mac Coop, I know how you're feeling

My macbook pro (duocore!) has been the best computer i've ever owned, by far.

My old PC, which was no slouch, probably crashed catastrophically, as in time to reboot, 5 times a week.

I've had my macbook pro since january and i've had 0 system crashes. The only problem i've had is AIM, which is glitchy software and unstable. Other than that, solid as a rock and fast as all get out to boot.

Congrats coop!

I'm going to Emerson College next year to major in radio production and I am required to have a Mac. Nice- they make people who are accustomed to PC's and don't have a Mac go out, buy one, and be useless on it until they attain some level of proficiency comparable their PC abilities.

I guess I'm just annoyed that I'm not being given any option if I want to go to this school, and I don't find anything about Macs intuitive from using some friends Macbooks. They have cutesy names for everything instead of just naming it by its purpose, and the keyboard on the Macbook looks neat but it's really a PITA to use. I'm sure I'll like it once the cost and learning curve are behind me ;)

Man, Macs are the cat's meow! :D I got into all this cyber-stuff late in life compared to all the youngsters who have grown up (?) with computers. But my brilliant wife started me off with an iMac when I finally reached that "teachable moment." We've gone through several incarnations of the iMac now, upgrading each time, and a week ago she set up an eMac for us. It's got some new tricks to learn of course, but it promises to be the best yet. These things are just damn near bulletproof!

I find most people who whine about macs are people who have never given one a chance or just not had one at all.

I have set older folks up on computers so they can do the digital camera and email and IM with family and the kids, I use ( usually ) 5 year old macs or older to get them started for about 300 bucks. Here's the deal, when you try to show people a windows machine, their heads get all furrowed and they stammer a lot. Give them a Mac, and within minutes they understand it.

Microsoft is a company that sells broken products.

Apple tends to sell products that last a very long time, and work for a very long time

Wow! Vintage PC's! I'm surprised you didn't mention my first one, the Sinclair ! LOL !
I wrote my first simple programs when I was 13 or 14 in the late 1960's. I wrote in binary using machine language templates. I actually had an opportunity to work on the Arpanet in 1973 while working with a professor who was doing post-doctoral research on the effects of truncation errors in estimating volumes described by complex surfaces - kind of using computers to point out the weaknesses and limitations of computers.

My first personal computers were two VIC-20's I had in the early 1980's - they had 5K of RAM (compare that to my current 4G!). Then I had a Commodore 64 and a couple of Amigas that were based on the Motorola 68000 series of chips and which came equipped with various co-processors. They blew the PCs away in every way, including real multi-tasking in the early '90's, but were not commercially successful, although the later Amigas running software like the Video Toaster were the choice of graphic artists in the '90's.

Things sure have changed. I would like to see one of today's coders try to get anything at all to run on 5K RAM! :D

Well said. Kinda follows my law...
Waste = Wealth.
So guess who's wealthiest
