I was just watching Bizzare Foods (one of my favorite shows) and they are showing several outdoors/woods/camp foods tonight. Good episode. One of the things they made was bean-hole beans cooked in the ground in a dutch oven or pot. Just wondered if anyone has tried this.

Flip it on if you read this fast enough. They are eating ramps, fiddleheads, stinging nettle, etc. I'm sure it will be on again though.

On Dish, it looks like they replay the same episode immediately in a half hour. Ya'll might watch it, it has been fairly interesting so far. It is shot in Maine.

I love fiddleheads!!!! pick em when their green bright, sautee in real butter with garlic a bit of.

Being from KS, I've never had them. Maybe someday I'll get up where they grow to try them. They sound tasty.

We make bean hole beans at the shooting club I belong to, good stuff! My woodsrunnin' buddy and his wife cook on a wood fire using Dutch ovens in their back yard more than they cook in their kitchen. Good show, except Zimmern hardly made it out of Massachusetts, missing out on the "real" Maine: "downeast" and "the county" with its French influence.

Yay Maine! A lot of the show was shot right around my area!

Had to jump in given the geography:thumbup: Both fiddleheads and bean-hole beans are huge here. When they're in season, people sell fiddleheads on the side of the road. Personally, I like them with butter and vinegar.

I've only seen beanhole beans done a few times, but it's a cool process. Definitely tasty.
