Shoes ! When the shoe didn't fit quite right this tool was used to stretch the leather especially around joints.

I used to use some that looked similar working with cattle except both sides had a ball on them, grab the cow by the nose and proceed to get your arm torn off.
Ken.

That reminds me of when we had to dehorn large cows. put them in the squeeze shoot and get out the huge branch cutters and hold on because its going to be a rough ride.

Alarion , OT, that reminds me of a friend visiting a custom leather maker shop in Firenza .The owner asked for help with the language as my friend spoke both English and Italian well. She got laughter when she explained that her handbags were one of a kind , 'unique' ! Except that she pronounced it 'eunuch' !!

I thought when I first saw this they might be what Ken was talkin about but we use a Burdizzo to emasculate bulls...it's designed to crush the semenal cord! Ouch!

Two of the most fun items I used to put out on the table at Highland games was a bull leader ( looks like the above tool, with two balls) and a bull castrate. The castrater looks like a large nail cutter tongs set with smooth jaws that don't quite meet.

I have a very similar tool that was made to peak out small rock dents in automobiles. there are several sizes. in use you put the ring under the dent then you tap the high spot from underneath pushing the dent back out instead of simply using filler. some one who is skilled in their use(not me) can completely remove the dent with no need for filler or paint.

Holy moly! That had to be a terrible, rough, broken cut. How in the world did you keep them from bleeding out?

Glad you asked as I have the same tongs that were in a box of tools that I bought at an auction. I didn't throw them out as I thought that eventually I would find a use for them. I thought about trying to use them for a reverse raindrop pattern of sorts but haven't tried yet.

:)If you find a good use for them other than pediatry let me know.

They look like the set we used to play with in physics class. The ball wont quite fit throught the ring untill you heat the ring and it expands. If you dip it in water after you put the ball through they are stuck together untill you heat the ring again.
