BJJ World Championships

Very impressive, Jaime. I'm sure the entire family is proud of his achievement.

Now, will someone PLEASE explain to me what the hell BJJ is? :confused:

Jk...I'll use my 17th degree diarrhea-yellow belt in Goog-Fu to figure it out. :D

Brazialian Jiu Jitsu...early form of judo that hit Brazil and was tinkered with like 80ish years ago. Seriously technical and brilliant ground techniques- arm locks, chokes, sweeps, escapes...lots of fun to do, most schools are just fun, lack "dojo warrior" mentality, highly applicable for self defense. Some folks knock it, but without it, no modern MMA! If ya got a daughter...that's the place for her to learn great self defense!

Thanks to everyone for the compliments. (nice synopsis rpn.) Yeah Socal is the new Mecca for BJJ considering most of the Gracie brothers live here now so it's very easy to get into. My son started at age 13 and completed all 4 kids belts in 1.5 years where the avg. is about 5 to 6 yrs. he's now obviously into the adult belts and soon he'll be a Purple belt which is halfway to black. Needless to say he's a "Prodigy."I've always warned him that belts don't mean chit on the street so believe me he's well aware of his limitations and has a very tactical mindset. One of the things that is misunderstood about the art is that it is based as a selfdefense style not a sport. My son's Sensi mixes both sport and selfdefense of the art. As for modern MMA it's true it wouldn't be around without Bjj or the Gracie family, they basically invented it.:thumbup:

Congratulations to your fine son!:thumbup:

BJJ is a very practical, hard-core art form. Obviously, your son has learned his lessons well.

So ... has he ever hinted that he might like to spar a bit with his Dad?:)

Much respect to you and your son!

One heck of an accomplishment:cool::thumbup:

Ah, see I DID know what BJJ is, just never heard the acronym before. I've got a couple of former students fighting MMA and one of them focuses primarily on Jiu Jitsu. Also knew a couple kids in college who competed.

Gratz again, Jaime. Definitely much to be proud of.
