bk-10 and a couple of figure 8s.

I have sort of dropped out of the Becker scene for a bit. One reason I did was that one that I most wanted was a BK-10. Imagine then how happy I am to have dropped back in only to find they're making and selling them again.

Nice to here from you.

Not Bk10 kydex just some Ive been working on.

thanks! those sheaths look awesome.

Those are some great pictures.
The north eastern US definitely has some awesome natural beauty.
I would have never guess all these pics were taken so close to NYC.
Makes me want to go experience some nature.
Thanks for sharing.

thanks! judging by the sheer number of people in central park on any given weekend, i don't think many know either that there's woods like this so close. the place is huge - 46,000 acres. actually, i think i like it this way - haha.

the new coating feels really nice too. also, i don't know if tooj tweaked the heat treat or my bk-10 just happens to be on the higher end of the hrc range but it seems to hold the edge noticeably longer than my previous beckers (i know because i sold most of them to a friend and i get it back from time to time to sharpen it for him)...significant improvements all around.

Excellent pics bro! Thank you for sharing! I do have a question! I'm new to camping/hiking working on a kit a little at a time what stove r you using??

Not directed to me, i know, but this one works excellent for me. Boils water in 3 min. Bought one 10 yrs ago. Unscrews to 2 pieces. Bought a padded holder for it. Fits/nests right inside my MSR pot w/lighter. Liked it so much i bought another. :D Then a 3rd for my daughter. Buy a foldable wind screen for windy conditions, or make your own.

thanks! it's a titanium emberlit (a stainless steel version exists for $30 i think). it's super efficient - a 2"x12" piece of wood or a couple of handful of twigs is more than enough to boil water for a freeze-dried meal and a cup of coffee.

here's the video from the maker - google "emberlit" and it should bring you to his site. i don't think he's a site sponsor so rules prohibit me from directly linking to it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwIWj2i2d9w.

Great shots, and I didn't know about EB and the figure 8.
Just so you know, the large dragonfly wasn't munching on an insect. The 'insect' that it was standing on was its own larval exoskeleton (exuvia). It may have been eating it, as some insects do to recover nutrients that would otherwise be lost, but I didn't know that dragonflies did that.
..and yeah, that was a mama spider with her egg sack.

Great pics man. I like coming into a knife thread and seeing knives and nature. This could turn into a nice blog.

thanks! good to know about those insects. an orange spyderco dragonfly is now available i think, i might pick one up to use as a scale next time :D

thanks! i usually don't post here due to lack of becker content but i have quite a few overnighter threads (i just finished at least an overnighter a month for an entire year last year) in the the w&ss sub-forum.

Have you tried rappelling with a ATC? They work much better then figure 8s and are pretty much the standard for double rope rappelling now, of your single rope rapping I'd suggest a grigri. The figure 8s aren't used much anymore because of the twisting of the rope and the ATC is easier to lock off also. I still have a couple figure 8s as they were the standard back in the day but you should give an ATC a try they are really nice and can be used to belay also.

yes, i have a black diamond atc...i'm familiar with different types so i'm not device-dependent but my favorite so far is the sterling ropes ats though:
