BK 10 vs Condor Crotalus???

Grinding off the ramp is a popular mod. Don't be shy. Filing will not be easy on hardened steel, but where there's a will, there's a way.

You WILL be introduced to Wayne, who is the one jimp-groove left behind. That's his name. Hi, Wayne!

Hi, Wayne!

I've chopped with the 2 a few times. I grab about the least amount of handle I can on the end, to get more leverage. Works okay, but easier on a gloved hand.

Well... It appears as thought I have entered the knife-nerd-porn epicenter... I was not prepared for this... Haha!

One of the coolest things about this forum is the pictures!

Gotta get my hands on a BK2 to compare! I won't be satisfied otherwise...

Know anybody who's trying to get rid of one cheap? There's a forum to post for that, right??

SMKW was selling them for 71.99 but they're sold out currently.

BK10 is still available on there for 71.99, however...

If you're a force-over-finesse kinda person, then you will love the BK-2.
Personally, I feel like the BK-10 is pretty darn forceful already.

You have to have a membership to be able to post a thread in the sales section. You can respond, and purchase, just not start a thread. You can start a thread in the WTB section without a membership. Here's the membership levels: https://www.bladeforums.com/help/exchange-rules/

I just got the knife a few days ago and haven't had a chance to take it out yet, but I agree with you. Feels very forceful!!

My first ever knife was a Remington something or other with crappy serrations and all metal handle, but I used to chop very adequately with that thing and the BK 10 feels like it would eat it for lunch!

Stoked!

Anybody have experience with both of these knives??

Got the BK 10 in the mail the other day and love it except for that stupid thumb ramp...

Anyone here ever file it off? Does it mess with the balance of the blade when you do that??

Would love to get my hands on one of these!! Doug Ritter RSK Mk2 Perseverance Fixed Blade Utility / Survival Knife - a knife you can bet your life on (tm)

Congrats on the 10  I’ve thought about removing the ramp. Didn’t want to be left with Wayne :p Crowning the ramp made it comfortable to live with. I did remove the waddle, machine lines and gave it a nose job.

I Didn't want the wayne all over my knife either, so I just took it down past the mark. It has a slight dip in the spine. I felt it was a better compromise? Idk....

*I can take better pics, if you need?

That is a SAWEET looking blade! Did you do anything coating-wise or is that just the blade stripped and polished? By crowning" you just mean rounding off the little ramps of the spines, correct??

I actually LIKE a little concave in the spine at that point. I have a ganzo folding knife (actually pretty nice steel. 440c. I think the g10 on it is fake, but it was like $20...) that has a nice "dip" in that same spot and I love it!

What is that gigantic blade next to the bk9??

Thanks, nothing coating-wise. Deepened the etch first, than stripped and lots of sanding. Starting with 220 grit and ending with well used 600 grit makes it look polished. Yes, rounding the edges on the ramp and the spine. Makes very it comfortable on your thumb and fingers.

This "filing" you speak of -Can't I just take it down with a wheel grinder if I'm careful to keep the blade cool temperature wise???

Yes.
I'm sure you won't have to worry about the blade temperature because grinding the ramp off won't get the edge to over 400F. The worst you'll do is toughen the spine a bit. Which doesn't sound terrible at all. You might want to not get the whole ramp glowing, but honestly... the rest of the blade will suck the heat out and distribute it a bit. It will get too hot to hold WAY before you have to worry about over-tempering the edge.

ETA: It would be another story if you were grinding near the tip or the edge.
ETA2: Actually, since the mass of the spine is so great, if you get the ramp glowing as you grind it, by the time you get that area of the spine flat, you MAY have actually hardened a very thin layer, while tempering what's under it. The underlying steel can suck the heat out fast enough to re-harden a very small area. But also, it would only be the part that was visibly glowing when you turned off the grinder for the last time.

Heck yeah!

I've never even heard or thought of this before! So cool to know!

Thank you for the lesson!!
