Working up some bear meat here - smothered steaks tonight. BK 15 doin the job!

And this is the bear - 165 pound boar taken August 30 in Allagash, Maine.

What did you use to tag him/her?
How does bear meat taste?
What are your plans with the fur and everything else?

Sorry for all the questions I just have no hunting experience and bear seems to be a rarer game. I would assume challenging as well.

OH and the 15 will be my first Becker some day. Thanks!

Nice. I've never had bear before. Ate some of a cougar one though. Not that bad. Some of my buddies still make fun of me for eating a cat though :D

What do you plan to do with the pelt?

Very nice, Col! Been way too long since we've had bear meat. We get tags about once every 8 years in Wisconsin and the last go we were skunked.

Col, that is AWESOME! How does the bear taste? I'd imagine kind of gamey?

Thank you for giving the bear a pillow at least to rest his head on, he was looking pretty tired in that picture.

Be sure to send your son some jerky so he can bring it to us at the gathering in 10 years. :D

Looks good Col. Cool to see the 15 getting used for some heavy skinning.

He needs to get it nice and freezer burned first. Very cool pics. The 15 is an awesome knife.

Tagged it with an AR in .50 Beowulf mostly because I wanted to try it out. Lots of Black Bear are taken with .308's, 30-06's, .270's etc. It tastes GREAT when my wife (and some other ladies I know) cook it. Tonight we had "smothered steaks" (like swiss steak). I will probably do a wall mount of the head, shoulders and forelegs but not sure yet.

Don't be sorry for questions - that's one of the great things about this forum. And thanks to everyone for all the kind comments.

nice looking hide Col!
congrats on the successful hunt.
if you end up with more meat than you know what to do with, I hear it makes good summer sausage.

Thats awesome Col!! You should for sure hang it on your wall!!!!!

I got a few bear claws recently and was amazed how big they are!! I think they would be cool on the haft of a hawk.... If i can get a hole through them lol
