I used some money from my wife's parents to buy a BK-16. I had been wanting one of these for several years now but never pulled the trigger on one. I then debated between the 16 and 17 going back and forth for at least a year.
Finally I said the heck with it and got the 16. I like the looks of the 17 better, but for general farm use, camp food prep, and bushcraft stuff, I think the 16 will be better and am glad that I got it. One day maybe I will get the 17 to satisfy my attraction to it looks.
Anyways enough talk, here are some photos. The past few days have been warmer and the snow is melting off. This seemed like a good break from all the sub-zero temps to head out back of the house and collect some more Red Osier for primitive arrow shafts that I make. Overall I am very happy with it minus the truck bed liner, but I will strip it like I did my 7 and then it will have much less drag when cutting.
On the belt with a small carabiner.
Cutting Red Osier Dogwood.
Here is a bundle of shoots ready to process and bundle for drying.
Then out to the wetland to chop up some cattails just for fun.
In the next week I will electro etch the blade info deeper, strip the paint, and force a patina. I am not sure about the sheath. It is a little on the large side for a knife this size. Plus I am not a big fan of the double loop snaps. Just one at the bottom would be fine. I might remove the top loop and add a small bungee as I have seen others do.
In the next month or so I will make a leather deep pouch style sheath. I prefer a leather sheath and enjoy leather work. I will probably keep the factory sheath on my pack and use the leather sheath for daily carry around my farm.
Part of the fun of these knives, is getting to make them your own. Modifications will commence soon!!!
