bk 16

I started that thread because I had just received my B16 from Moose and wanted to show the Esee 4 and the BK16 side by side without a bunch of other Esees and Beckers in the picture. And Bladeite slapped my hand for doing so because other people had already posted some pictures of the Esee 4 and BK 16 (lost in a sea of other Esees and Beckers) and also commented on them. Newer members like me, who are excited about a new knife that we bought from another forum member, are apparently not allowed to do that.

Sorry about that. I didn't notice, just saw your first post. Would you like me to remove the link?

Battboy if you're still curious about ESEE-4 VS. BK-16 here's something from another thread I posted for someone that I try to put up for people when they are curious about the differences between these two knives (which have very similiar sizes/purposes of use).

Here you go SMH, sorry about the phone pics. I'd like to point out that my 16 is different from the Reg. Production because of the coating, roll stamp, and most importantly: grind. So I will not really touch on those features. Also while I have used my ESEE 4, I do not play with my 16 so I will not touch on how they compare in use either. Pics:

As you can see they are very similiar in length, if you'd like to know the exact measurments there are many places to find them starting in our forum stickies. The ESEE 4 has a little more heft to it and is a little thicker (sorry, forgot to take a spine shot). The regular 16 will be flat ground which I imagine will shave even a little more weight off of it. Getting micarta stock on the ESEE 4 is nice, but really you ARE paying for it. I still give the ergos to the 16 by far, it is one of the most comfortable knives I have ever held. As far as sheaths, there are great things about both. I love the kydex on the ESEE, and I LOVE how modular it is, however as a ready to go, working system the BK16 sheath is very impressive and it is really nice to have that front pocket already included on the BK sheath (any hardcore ESEE dudes that see how my sheath is set up, yeah, it's probably wrong, but it works for me). I believe edge retention/steel quality in general is a little higher on the ESEE, not a steel geek myself so can't say for certain but I love all of my 1095CV BKs and have no problems with them so it kind of like, how many alligators are you going to be skinning per day anyways? Both will do their job well.

Not going to declare a winner, would be unfair as I have not gotten to put a BK16 through the paces. Both have awesome things about them.

I'm a big Esee4 guy, love mine and it's been one of my favorite blades. With that said when the BK16 arrived it has definitely given my 4 a run for its money. The BK16 just feels better in the hand due to more ergonomic handles and the sheath being molle comparable is a plus. I already stripped it of it's coating and roughed up the grivory handles with a file, this thing is sweet! Now I want a BK15...:D

stripped it like normal, sanded all the grey coating off, washed it, cleaned it with acetone, handled it with latex gloves so I wouldn't get any oil on it

Then wiped it down with cold blue on a cottonball...all that^ is ''normal'' for how I etch, here's where I digressed. While the blue was still wet, I rubed it down with 0000 steel wool soaked in Blue (makes it more even supposedly) then soaked it in bleach for 1 hour 10 minutes, stirring/agitating it with a stirrer every 5 minutes or so ( I had it in a dish, wedged in the corners, blade down..just the tip and tiny bit of pommel touching glass)

Then pulled it out, wiped it off on a towel (still wearing latex so as not to mark it) and using pliers (gripped it in the handle holes) I dunked it in boiling water for 3-4 minutes, then rinsed it off, and polished it down with more clean 0000 steelwool. then scrubbed it with palmolive and dish scrubber pad a few times under running hot water. then dried and wiped down with mineral oil.

It looks good with the black zytel...curious as to what it'll look like with the wood grips.

EDIT- AFTER I blued it..I appled a thin layer of Vick's vapor rub to the edge with a Q-tip..I have been applying Vicks BEFORE I blued, this way makes a MUCH cleaner edge....

..as u can see by comparing it to the wavy etch edge on my 11

No, but thank you. It counts toward fulfilling the requirements for becoming a Beckerhead. It was also my first posted first posted photo so it has sentimental value.
