BK-2 and a Ka-Bar Kukri...READ for some interesting results (MANY pictures inside)

Wanted to acknowledge the customer service displayed here tonight...I don't know if there's any other companies where you'll get a personal call from the person who designed the knife offering to replace it and really giving some great conversation at the same time. Thanks Ethan, it's really nice to know that you can buy with confidence knowing that you go out of your way for your customers.
The mark of a true gentleman. It is no wonder Ethan is so highly regarded and is so successful in his endeavors. Definitely stands as an example we can all learn from and benefit from by emulating.
Back on topic, I see that you had removed the finish. Did you use a sander to do so? I am wondering if the blade could have gotten overheated and that affected the temper / heat treat. Curious as that may be info we all need to consider when we remove the finish on any blade. Maybe Ethan or another knife maker can chime in

I was wondering the same thing because I have done it before. Not with a BK&T knife but way back when I was a wee lad learning how to use a belt sander lol

This is what sets Becker apart from the rest. Every knife maker in the world can produce a lemon every now and then, but not every knife maker has the customer service BK&T does...Let alone an owner as awesome as Ethan! :D

Trust me, you will be ALOT more happy with your new 2!

I'm pretty sure I can see very small scratches on the blade which would be caused from hand sanding at a very high grit (800 and up). The finish looks to be sanded off, but I highly doubt a belt sander was used. I could be wrong though!

Hey NYOutdoors, come prove me right please:D

Impressive Mr. Becker. Good on you for running your business with real values and belief in your product. I buy with confidence and appreciation.

My sentiments exactly. I have never second guessed buying a Becker due to the man behind it all..the only problem I do have is choosing which one I want..and sticking to it !

After being on here and seeing him respond time after time, I can say that I have no reservations on buying on of his knives.

Gosh, I love happy endings. And really, who doesn't? ;)

I also have a Bk-2 Campanion. I had it out in the backyard one day and was using it to hack down some unruly vegetation creeping in from the fenceline. I also used it to dig out and destroy the invasive roots. Well, I dunno if all the stories of the BK-2's legendary toughness went to my head, if it was the fierce heat of the sun beating down and baking my brains, or if it was the 12-14 beer I drank that afternoon, but I decided to try sharpening my 2 with a rock.

Yeah, my BK-2 ended up chipping... the rock! :p

Anyway, sorry for the ramble and thread drift. :o Glad you're being taken care of, OP!:)

I did strip the BK2 by hand using a spray-on stripper and then sanded it by hand. No belt sander involved!

I'll be sending the BK2 back to Ka-Bar tomorrow and we'll see what happens. I really can't say enough about how much confidence this gives me in BK&T. It makes me want to buy all of the ones I don't have yet (which will turn out very expensive...I only have a 2, 7, and 10)...

Try a little fella or a Tweener, NYO. The BK-11 is very nice, and my recently acquired 15 is a sweet little clip-point!

Might have to get m'self a 14 at some point...

Impressive indeed!!!! I just bought a bk7 and was debating on purchasing a bk2 for my wife and daughter. This customer service has made up my mind for me.Thank you Mr. Becker.
It sure is nice to see a tool used as intended. I really see alot of fun in my near future.
Once again thanks.
God Bless
Tracy
