BK-2 Campanion Project Thread

I really liked those Companion modifications shown here. Good job! About 15 years ago I ordered a pair of the early Companions (a pair because they were very cheap at the time), but I didn't like them at all in their original configuration. They seemed very disproportionate to me ... meaning that the blade was far too thick and broad for it's length, the handle was too massive for the overall size of the knife, and it was much too heavy for its stubby length. I quickly sold them both to friends who weren't as picky as I am.

Oh, yes, I'm sure the paint-stripper is highly toxic, but this is not what I meant with my question, sorry. :o I'm not sure if removing the black coating with paint-stripper (and thoroughly washing the knife, of course) is safe enough to use the knife for food prepping or if it's absolutely necessary to polish the blade with sandpaper in order to use it with food. :)

Ah... I see.... ;)

Yes.... the steel is just steel and, once it has been washed, it is safe for use with food or whatever... It's like a fine, sand-blasted finish on the stripped Becker blades.

It's carbon steel and it will still patina and discolour when used with foodstuffs.

You could leave it raw looking, if that's the look you like. :)

Cheers.

Aye.... I totally agree... the standard Campanion is ugly and unbalanced.... It feels more like an axe than a knife.

Once the handle has been streamlined and the blade/edge thinned out... it takes on an entirely new character.. :)

Cheers.

Good, I can't wait to get the knife and work on it. Thanks for your help. :)
