Hey folks,
I was very impressed with the idea of using only a Ka-Bar Fighter/Utility for a year, which someone in the Ka-Bar area of this great forum brought up. I will be doing the same, just with my BK-2.
I will use only my BK-2 until 2013-4-1. I can't edc it legally, so it won't cover that base, and food prep in the kitchen isn't much fun either, but any outdoorsy stuff will be done with this one knife. Chopping, batonning, whittling, fire prep, outdoor food prep, skinning and cleaning game (I hope there will be something to skin and clean) and Ethan's Challenges. Whatever it is, the BK-2 will do it for me. I also want to complete the Bushclass USA Beginner's Certificate, using only my BK-2.
I will mod where I see fit, add gear I find myself using frequently to the sheath and otherwise just let the knife be. I hope that this will result in a no-nonsense woods multitool that I am comfortable with. I will, however, allow myself the use of a folding saw. There's just no point in chopping through 4" logs for firewood when you can tear through it in a few seconds with a saw.
I will post links, pictures, and videos of this evolution in this thread, and I hope we all can learn something from it.
Sit back and enjoy as my BK-2 and I travel through all four seasons in the outdoors, starting with spring. But please, feel very free to chime in with any ideas, requests and criticism you have to throw at me.
Here's 2 pics of the current setup. I made the sheath and kydex firesteel loop myself. The wear of the coating is due to prior use (mainly batonning through frozen 3" logs
) and my attempts to fisk it without a belt sander. Worked out pretty nicely, needs sharpening at the moment though.
Thanks for reading!
