BK 2 Sheath Passaround

ThrillBilly
I have never participated in a passaround, but I just assumed that I send to the first person on the roster, then they pay shipping to the next on on the list. I'm thinking at least 2 weeks per person. That gives at least one weekend to take it out and make a campfire. As far as the rest of your list.......well I'm not even a BeckerHead so don't know about who can participate. I'm hoping that Moose or Guyon can chime in and clarify how passarounds work but I don't think either are following this thread. As far as geographic restrictions.......I'm thinking that any state that doesn't honor the second ammendment is out! ie California. But seriously, the dyes that I use are NOT ALLOWED IN CALIFORNIA! Can you believe that? When I buy the dyes, it clearly says that shipping to CA is not allowed!
Something to do with vapors. Probably as deadly as a black rifle. But, I digress.
Cheers

I just saw the update photos. Looking great! How do you get that textured pattern into the leather? I'm a total newb with leather sheathmaking.... is it some sort of stamp system?

im down for the passaround! let a brotha know...wont keep it 2 weeks though...one weekend would be ok by me..

I'm a newb too. Just started this past Christmas. I'm in the Air Force and live away from my family and needed something to occupy my free time. Yes, all that you see is by a single basket weave stamp repeated over and over again. And then the simi circle border is another stamp done after the basket weave. If you notice in the first photo, I did not take the basket weave all the way to the edge. So, the border stamp just kind of ties everything together. I am loving leather craft. It's something that I have wanted to do for years and now I am finally starting to do it. Thanks for the kind words and following my thread.
All the best

Keep up the good work! That's really looking good. I like the idea of having it molded with the retention strap too. I'm looking forward to see how it turns out.

Work has been busy......hate when it interferes with my play time. So, here is an update. The sheath is assembled, stitch grooves, and holes placed. This is what it looks like now. I will finish the edges when the stitching is done.

After it is stitched, I will wet mold it and then it will look something like this:

Have a great weekend and I will post again when I have made progress

Looking GREAT! I read your comment to me in another thread about the Machax, I am really looking forward to what you end up doing with that design, if you do decide to build it. I imagine something Crocodile dundee-ish, though that might be more suited to the BK9 (which I also don't own lol). That is some grade A work you're doing my friend, and you're inspiring me to go out and give it a try. Tandy Leather is about 5 minutes from where I work...

Damn dude, you should start doing this on the side. Really nice work.

OK..it's time for a big decision. Do you guys want this to be horozontal (scout) carry or do you want vertical? Horozontal is the easiest and fastest which means that the passaround could start sooner, but I will do whatever the majority says.
I'm at that point and could use some input.
Thanks

Noted. Like I said, that's the easiest way to go. If I go vertical, I have to cut and dye more leather. And then, of course, I would feel the need to tool it to match the sheath.
Thanks

I like vertical drop leg, but don't count mine because I can't participate because of restrictions at work...

horizontal would be nice...but right-hand draw, edge DOWN...edge UP is more for small-of-back carry, like how my 16 Scout sheath is...which is great on a smaller knife. IMO a BK2 is a lil large for SOB though...I would be carrying it on my left hip, handle forward and to the center of body for a right-hand crossdraw...so in that carry position a horizontal edge Down sheath would be about perfect.

ThrillBilly
I designed the sheath to be capable of right hand vertical carry. So....When I sew the belt loop on the back (think right hand vertical) it will be blade up for scout carry. It would also be blade down for right hand cross draw. Clear as mud? I'm gonna go ahead and sew the belt loop to the back and post pic. Then it will make more sense.
Thanks

OK guys......time to ship it out is getting close. So far the ones showing interest in the passaround are:
Thrillbilly
The Warrior
JWL
Greybush
Febeleh

Haze has been following the thread but doesn't own a BK2. I will have to take care of him later.
Oxide has also shown interest but says he can't do it at this time.

So.....in my mind, Thrillbilly is first because he has kept me motivated to keep this project going.
After that, I just think we can go in order unless anyone has a better idea. So Thrillbilly, I need an address. You can PM me and the sheath should go out within the week. Let me know.
Cheers

This project started with the first picture in this thread and this is where we wind up. The only thing left to do is smear a last coat of Montana Pitch on it to weather proof it and buff it out. Oh yea, and take it to the UPS store to get it on it's way to thrillbilly. BTW the background is the leather side that this sheath is made from.
Hope you like it!
