BK-7 Mods -- Pic Heavy

Looks really good. I don't have a 7 yet, but who knows what the future holds... Love the way the spine stands out on yours, awesome job.

As promised here is the tutorial on the patina.

First I soaked a paper towel in white vinegar and wrapped it around the blade. I was careful to get it to lay flat on the blade. I then hung it up on a nail.

I let the paper towel dry out. This is how it looked after about 1.5 hours.

Then to set the patina I poured boiling water after the knife in a tray. This will set the finish a little and darkens the steel. It looks nice but might be a little darker than I was hoping for.

Here is how it looked after a few minutes in the boiling water bath.

At this point I rubbed the blade hard with fine steel wool and oiled it well. Here is a picture again of the final product.

Hope that helps some of you that want to force a nice even patina. Feel free to ask questions.

That's ridiculous how amazing that looks. You sure you aren't on Becker's payroll? I think I've got a new fixation now

great post and work on the very often ignored bk7. Actually I think the name Black Sheep might be fitting for her.

This was a great thread until all the pictures disappeared.

Can anyone help me with salt/water ratio for a homemade electro-etching solution? I have an old Radio Shack power supply similar to the one Greebe used. Thanks!
