I think you guys know what my usage will be, general outdoor use.

I don't have a large chopper, or any designated chopper at all actually.

either one of them, I will more than likely grind the thumb ramps off.

I can only get one, because I am a poor sap.

Any suggestion please.

Thanks.

I don't have a BK-7 yet. I've been holding off in anticipation of one or more Machax's.

But the answer is yes. Get both.

If I had to go with only one, though. I imagine that the 9 would be the most useful all-around knife. Coupled with a Necker or Eskabar, and you can do most any knife related task.

The 3 is actually an option, I am a cop and I would hate to drive past a wreck and not be able to get victims out and help them before fire/ambulance arrives.

So, thanks for trolling and actually helping.

oh, i strongly believe the 3 is the most useful as a utility knife... esp if you already own Beckers :>

course, i would also advocate buying a 3 foot long Fubar III - it's like a Halligan bar/rescue tool, of a sort, but is more useful in urban situations as well. bust open anything if you have to, under $90 on "that river site" iirc.

that and a couple good seatbelt cutters :)

I loves me a good FUBAR. I was the king of destruction back when I was doing water remediation and disaster cleanup. You can turn a house into rubble and kindling with one of those bad boys. They're good for the soul. :D

If you plan on carrying a small knife too get the nine. If you are only able / willing to carry one get the seven. It's the best do it all knife around. It doesn't do everything GREAT but is good to very good at everything.

went through the same decision 5 days ago.... i currently own several kukris, a machette, and a good axe, so for large scale work, i had my bases covered

i also own around a dozen small and midsized knives used for hunting, skinning and general "run-the-housery" so i didn't really have a need for either the BK7 or the BK9

so i bought the BK7 since it'll probably be slightly better if i ever find myself on the ground with a large wounded boar and unable to reach my sidearm

i'm having to concoct virtually impossible scenarios to justify knife buying at this point... sigh...

I much prefer the 9 between the two. The 7 is more of a fighter IMO while the 9 is a more of a large utility blade...

That just sounds like a good time to me. Don't forget to plan for the zombie outbreak and inbred mutant cannibal hill-folk scenarios.

$20-30 will get one a really nice pry bar to keep in a vehicle. or heck, get two sizes. the number of uses and so on is immeasurable.

last Fall, at a store, they had those giant cement planters, and a small animal got trapped between it and a wall, in such a way that getting it out was nearly impossible - could reach in - wouldn't WANT to reach in. nobody could move the planter. it was well over 500 lbs - couldn't even shift it...

well, went and got a mere 2 foot pry bar, and was able to lift and rotate, an inch at a time, the giant planter. 3-4 goes, and that animal squirted out of there and took off. bam. hero of the day that bar.

it's been useful on truck gates, moving other stones, and breaking a few things in the name of science. great $20 :)

the fubar is just ... the overkill mode :> one will note that for nearly 3x as much, they sell an "entry fubar", which is a normal fubar, with two holes drilled for a sling, and plastic grips instead of rubber. it's STILL cheaper than a real Halligan bar, possibly more useful too.

I got the 2 then skipped right to the 9. I figured the 7's 2 inches more length wasn't enough to challenge the 2's thickness...decided I needed a 9 to really perform much better at chopping then the 2.

Not sayin Im correct in my assumptions, merely stating MY chain of thought that led me to the 9 over the 7.

That being said, I wldn't mind a 7 at some future point...thinkin sharpened swedge, create more of a fightin knife for zombie-day then a woodstool.

BK9 if you don't have a large chopper. The 7 chops but can't compete.

I agree with Brab on the "fighter" comment, that's exactly what I think of my BK7 but with you not having a "chopper" I don't know which one you want..... but you need the BK9. I have them both and there's no reason I'd grab the 7 if the 9's around. Pretty slick setup with the thumb-ramp ground off too, I liked the pics that Battlecreek Knives put up of his.
