BK 7 or Cold Steel Warcraft Tanto??

Thanks for your input everyone. I think i wanted the Warcraft tanto because it looks cool and has a steel i have never heard much about be for. The Bk 7 also looks Rude Gal, just the idea alone of getting the BK 7 ad having money left over for another knife is convincing enough as it seems like stated above, it will do what i will be asking of it.

But this BK 9 you say...?... The plot thickens. Looks like its one hell of a knife!! I have some thinking to do and it will be on a Becker.

BK9 you say???? Well think no more... BK9 PHOTODUMP...

If its Warcraft Tanto VS BK9... thats a different story... BK9 all the way... Its a big blade which may not be what you want... but mine has more than proven itself time and time again. It is probably the best production large knife on the market today... for under 100 biscuits..

Pray thee, what is this BK9 you speaketh of? I may have heard rumors about it :D

Get the BK9 and you will not regret it. I have had a bk2 for years and love it, and I added the bk7 earlier this year and it is a fine blade, but the 9 is just a beast, big strong and with enough weight to really chop with authority. It really is the best production big blade around for under $100. I think I am giving bk9's for Christmas this year.

Well put me on your list! :D

Ok here are my $.02----It really depends on how much you want to spend (I mean how much do you want to spend on Beckers---Cold Steel isnt even an option-lol)
For the same cost as the Tanto--You can get a BK9, a set of micarta handles for the BK9, a BK14 and two sets of zytel (black and orange) scales. ALL that or you could get the cold steel.....:D---And if you have a little extra to spend--there are some amazing kydex and leather sheath makers on the Becker forums that can whip you up a sweet custom sheath to hold both Beckers---If you dont have extra to spend, the stock sheaths that come with the Beckers are decent for the time being (probably as good as anything that will come with a Cold Steel). If you would really like a custom sheath and want one knife that kind of does it all---take a look at the BK10---its pretty close to a BK2 but thinner and slicier. (is that a word?)---You could get a bk10, micarta scales and have close to 75 bucks left to spend on a custom sheath----sorry to make it even more difficult for ya to make a decision. :D

Take what you would have spent on a warcraft tanto and get a BK7 and a BK9. Then buy the rest of the beckers because they're awesome. BK9 is my favorite knife ever. Tough, holds an edge well, chops like a beast but can carve and do finer tasks as well. With some practice it could probably cover all of your cutting tasks, but I like to carry a mora companion and a leatherman with mine just to be sure all my bases are covered.

I don't have a BK7 so I can't say how it handles but I know it'll have the same awesome quality as the other Ka-Bar/Becker knives. I'll probably end up with one eventually even though I don't really go for 7" blades very often.

Guess which one has a better written warranty and which company has a better reputation for customer service?

In case no one has guessed it......it's Ka-bar.
I haven't personally ever needed the warranty on any of my blades, but I've seen Ethan, Tooj, and the rest of the Ka-bar gang step up big time when it comes to customer service!

Go for the BK7!

Truthfully,

I think the BK-7 is one sweet looking knife,

Lost, sweet pic reminds me of a great summer day in WI when I was a younger man. The BK 7 is alot of knife for the money you can't go wrong a Becker just feels right in hand. Also IMO if you really want CS get a Trailmaster a little less $ but well worth your dollars.
A great all around knife

I wonder.....what are the results of this same survey in the CS forum?

Geez

For what he is asking? I can't imagine any one would recommend the Tanto. Not a great shape for an all around camping knife.

Higher end steel, and if all you were going to ever do with it was hammer it through tough stuff, and never any thing else..................

A few more thoughts,

Becker - Made in U.S.A.

Tanto - States made of U.S. Steel

A word on steels, Crucible makes some sweet stuff. But myself again, in the Farrari vs Pick-Up Truck theory. I find little fault with steels like 1095 or A2.

Kind of like my old cast iron skillets, low tech, some are older than I am. Occasionly I will try some new miricle pan, but always end up going back to the old reliable, predictable, cast iron. Sometimes new isn't better, it's just new. New sells.

You've got the gift of analogies L.V., and I couldn't agree more with your statements..............or your choice in cookware.

I've never held the Warcraft, but will admit that I'm a value shopper, and some of Cold Steel's knives over the years have been a superb value so I've got a decent collection of Cold Steel knives. That said, I LOVE the BK7 and have five of various vintages. Like most Beckerheads, I own much of what Ethan has designed and don't regret a single purchase. But there's just something Goldilocks about the BK7 that keeps drawing me back to it. IMO it's close enough to the perfect "large knife," for whatever we all use large knives for, that I am very content no never let my eyes wander towards the fancy $400 customs............or the Warcraft.

The 1095 Cro-van construction, the blade shape and balance, the fit and comfort of the handles, the very affordable price, and the USA manufacture all team up to make the BK7 the clear choice when compared against most large knives in today's market, and that certainly includes the Warcraft. But then again, I'm a Beckerhead. :)

Thanks everyone for all the input! I know now what all this curfuffel is about with these Becker knives.

I dont see how any other knife could feel better in my hand than this one. Its just the right size blade too.

Quite impressed with the sheath as well.

Glad you listened plastid. :)

It's REALLY hard to put the BK7's awesomeness into strong enough words to convey to the uninitiated, but I'm sure everything clicked as soon as you pulled yours free from its box. The superlative balance and feel will continue to sink in for a least a week if you continue to use it and hold it while watching TV.

Regarding the Cold Steel knife. I've got a pile of CS knives, but I always aim for their more value oriented stuff and have never been disappointed. There's just NO WAY I'd pay Warcraft sized dollars when I already know how wonderful the BK7 is. :)

$73 for a BK7 or $156 for a Warcraft Tanto in 3V?
Guess which one has a better written warranty and which company has a better reputation for customer service?

Why is it that not a single Forum member has posted a pic of there Warcraft Tanto? Or did I miss something? I would love to see a Forum Member video review of it.

Isn't that what people do with these knives? Chop and bash? I have a great knife in this size but it just chops and bashes because I have better knives for the other stuff. I really don't see the tanto tip as being any hinderance at all for this type of knife. The handle is another story. I think the overall shape is fine but I see in some pics that the scales don't cover the whole tang. That would be my only concern.

3V is a MUCH better steel then 1095. One is a supersteel, the other is basic steel. And it's not that hard to sharpen. It sharpens up just fine on plane old sand paper.

3V done right is a great steel, but it's awfully hard to go wrong with Becker. At half the price, I think you made the right call.

My BK-7 if my favorite knife I LOVE it. All my friends think it's huge but I think it's the perfect size for having 'one' knife to fit all tasks. I prefer a 3 knife solutions. But if I could only carry one it would be the BK-7!
