Looking to invest In a quality large fixed blade, I have a K-bar and I like that but I think its time to try out the next best thing.
Anything one can do better than the other?

Many people will say "Buy the BK and replace the handle scales, and etc"

Nothing beats INFI for big knives, and the TGLB is one of the most lusted-after blades on the market. If money is no object, there isn't a reason to not go Busse.

We're comparing an $80 knife to a $400 knife here...as much as I love Beckers, I have to agree that the Busse is a better blade. It's really not a fair comparison, although you do get more performance per dollar with the Becker. That said, the BK7 does do two things better: weighing less and costing less.

Lots of choices when you get over $300. I have been very satisfied with the performance of the Beckers myself.

There are a number of Busse knives that appeal to me... the TGLB usually isn't one of them (every once in a while, I sort of like it). If you're willing to spend that much money, you've got a lot of options.

If you like your KaBar, you'll probably like the TGLB. I've handed mine to people who roll their eyes but then do a double take and say: hey, that is pretty nice. Feels good in the hand due to the balance. Somehow I ended up with three of them. Not the worst knife you could buy.

The Becker 7 is a bargain. I think you'd know which knife is better for you.

I have never "got it" when it comes to spending gazillions on a wood processing monster you are going to whup the tar out of. I'm not saying the Busses aren't awesome. They are. But for me, imo, I'd sooner spend $40 on a Condor Kumunga beater for batoning, etc...and spend the extra $$$ on a sweetheart, beautifully balanced and built camp knife I'm gonna use 90% of the time, instead of the beast blade. Just my opinion. I mean, you use a tractor to pull out a tree stump, and a Ferrari on the racetrack...

if you got the bucks get the busse and I'm a becker fan too the ninth degree lol nothing wrong with a bk 7 either btw!!

if you get the buse and end up not loving it you can resell it pretty easily

I understand the Busses are great knives, but I just cannot see needing one over a BK7. Plus if I was intending to be in the wilderness and intended to do chopping, I'd take a camp axe and a smaller knife for food prep. Even a Gransfors and a BK7 is half of the price of the Busse.

Both are great. The TGLB will have the best warranty in the business if it ever breaks. I find myself using My BK 9 more than anything, partly because I feel better pounding on a knife that cost under $100. If you get the Becker, you may want to upgrade the scales or stipple them. You will have to buy a sheath with the TGLB. Check out Fehrman knives as well, they are excellent.

I say neither. If you're looking for a quality fixed blade and are willing to spend $400 on one, look up Claudio Cas in the maker's market and snag one of his San Mai camp blades. That's what dreams are made of.

Busse is a great knife but not a great value. No doubt there are many others out there that would suit your needs for a lot less but then you won't be a member of the club....

I have been down that road as well....have had and have Beckers......have had and sold all my Busses........I've chosen the road of custom fixed blades from makers here on the forum. I've been able to get blades that come with warranties every bit as good as Busse, knives that are every bit as useable, leather pants which Busse doesn't do........and relationships with some very fine people!! To me, the ability to customize a blade just the way I want it is worth every penny......and it still, almost every time, comes is less than you'd pay for a Busse. I'm not knocking Busse in the end......they make a great blade.....bang for your buck rests with the custom makers in my humble opinion.

Couldn't agree more....When you compare what your money will buy in a custom to what you pay for a Busse, you will see the truth in the above...

My personal favorites are Mason Leeth with Leethal Cutlery, David Williamson at OTK, Lamont Coombs, White Feather Blades, MCSWood and Claudio Cas. You also cannot go wrong with something from Derrick Wulf.

Agree that it is not a fair comparison; agree if money isn't an object, no reason to not go with Busse. But between the 85 USD of the BK7 and the 400 USD of the TGLB lays a world of possibilities. I'm thinking SYKCO 711, SYKCO 911, Swamp Rat Rodent 6, Survive! GSO 6, Survive! GSO 7/7 or something of Bark River's Bravo series. And for 400 USD itself I would also take a look at Fehrman Knives (like jstn stated) e.g. the Fehrman First Strike.
