BK 9 micarta handles by ranger $20

No problem KKhansen.
The scales from Ranger knives cost me $20 a pair which works out at about £10.50, which is cheaper than buying the raw material over here.

They saved me a lot of time and dirty work sanding Micarta.

The handle section of my Becker Campanion is a lot smaller than a standard model so I knew that the ranger scales would be bigger than required.

I DID use the Allen head bolts that Justin sent with the Ranger scales, but, because I epoxied the whole handle assembly together, I used an engineers countersink on the screw heads and got quite a nice effect.

I've got some "Markarta" (Made by Mark Nelson)on it's way to me and I've got a couple of projects in mind for these.

Good to read that you and quite a few others like to modify things as well.

All the best.

Well, it's a bottle opener and a miniature pry bar for removing thumbtacks or opening tins of paint...etc..

The V shaped notch is designed as a wire stripper, but, it works well getting sparks from a Firesteel to start a fire. :)

It's a great tool and I carry mine with me all the time and use it a lot.

Cheers.

I would recommend putting it in your hold luggage if that's what you mean.

If your talking about it getting problems on it's way to you ,then there is no problem.

Peter Atwood is a great guy to deal with and he ships his tools all over the world.

Just send him an email using the address on his website and he will help you out. :)

Cheers.

And now they are installed on a modified Campanion. :)

Big thanks to Bear the Dog and Justin at Ranger Knives.

Cheers.

Extremely nice.

Mind if I contact you regarding some tips for fancifying my BK-2?

No problem... glad to help...

Unless your name is Jeff... if it is... then I'm already writing my reply to your email. :)

I finally finished the knife and sheath after a grand total of about 4 months..... I think.....maybe 5 months.

Very nice Job! When you remove the black epoxy coating what do you use to prevent rust?

Sweet. I'm thinking of doing something similar to a BK-7.

Hey guys, I have just used my BK1 in my previous hiking trip. The thing is, I clean it with water at home and dried it with tissue paper. After that, I didn't apply a layer of grease on my blade. Now it has all this brown stains on it. I'm not sure if it is caused by the sap from the plantsor because of rusting. Any one here can help me out in this issue?

I keep the blade clean and dry.

Rusting isn't a problem with a carbon steel knives if you get into the habit of simple knife care.

Also.... don't leave the knife in a leather sheath for extended periods of time...or the leather will eat it.

Camillus puts the coating on to cover up the rough finish of the blades.... makes them affordable though.

The sap from trees will discolour a carbon steel blade...but...that's a good thing in my book.

Characterful patina..... I like the look of a blade that has been used. :)

Acwire.... I don't use grease....I'm sure some people do...

This is what works for me:

If I am using a carbon steel blade in the outdoors, I will try to keep it as clean and as dry as possible.

I carry a cloth that has some "Light Grade Mineral Oil" on it to wipe the blade occasionally.

The mineral oil is non-toxic, but,I wipe it off the blade anyway, before using the knife with food.

When I get home, I will wash the whole knife in the kitchen sink using dish washing liquid and, after drying it, I wipe it down with Mineral Oil.

That is as complicated as my knife care gets and rust is not a problem.

:)

I love the look of the Satin blade!

I had also contacted Camillus about getting my hands on the scales from the Extreme. Below is what Wendy Wilson "wwilson@camillusknives.com" at Camillus came back with:

"The Micarta handles will fit all except the BK11 knife. The cost is $20.00
per set with 1 shipping charge of $11.49. You may call us at 315-672-8111
to place your order"

I did follow up with her, the above price does not include any replacement fasteners, she advised using the ones on the knife already.

Also, below are some pictures of the Extreme that caused my interest on trying to get my hands on these particular micarta handles! This guy takes great pictures.

Would they fit a Fisk? aka BK5, aka Magnum camp knife?

Anybody also know where can I get a nice sheath for this knife in the style of an eagle industries or SPEC_OPS sheaths?

Thanx
