Well I finally got around to trying out a Becker, after a few misses I snagged one on the exchange.
When looking over the knife I did make myself remember that I gave 65.00 shipped for it so I can't be to hard on it for things I might not like.First thing I notice is that it is lighter than I thought it would be.I would have liked 1/4in stock better, increase in cost though so its good.Second was the grips and hardware but remember the price, what I might have liked to see for grips could very well cost more than the whole package and they are very easy to upgrade if I want.Third is the sheath but wait the sheath I would like to have would be over 100.00 alone and that is very easy to upgrade also if I want to drop the cash on it not to mention the original sheath works fine.I also got the free China made BK 13 with it,if nothing else it will make a great striker for a fero rod.
While I may have liked more that more would have put this knife into the 300.00 plus range so for the price these are going for IMO a person just could not do any better. Thanks for the great product and for the easy upgradeable design.
I think the only things I will end up changing is to strip the coating and sand the finish, make a kydex sheath and get some micarta grips.

Great buy. It is a great knife. The micarta scales can be found almost anywhere and turn it into a whole new knife IMO. If you want ot upgrade the sheath the ESEE Junglas sheath fits it like a glove. Congrats

Nice score. Get it out and put it to work, you'll be impressed.

HHHUUUMM stripping one is not as easy as it sounds.I could not find my can of paint stripper so I figured I would go ahead and clean off the spine and edges around the handles.I thought there would be cutting-tool marks there and there was.It has taken about an hour and a half to get the edges done using a small belt sander and finishing with 400 grit paper by hand.Looking good right now.Hoping the flats will be smoother.

Sanding would be a giant pain, imo.

I've used Klean-Strip KS3 (paint, epoxy, and polyurethane stripper) and it works like a champ.

Not sure what's "klean' about it since it's toxic as all heck. I used gloves intended for use with paint stripper and by the second knife my hands started getting cold then burning sensation .

Eye protection is probably an investment in your future too.

Mod away! Beckers are great by themselves but are a lot of fun to customize and make your own. The 9 is a great knife and will do all you ask of it.

I stripped my 9 with a product called "dads paint remover and stripper" brushed it on , 20 mins later scraped right off and looks cool " ghetto satin"!

Planning on doing the rest with stripper, then sanding with 400 grit paper.

The Camillus version was actually a little thicker, but I've slowly grown to the lighter, faster feel of the Ka-Bar version.

Interesting....... How does the weight of the new 9 feel against the old Cam. Brute ? I've been around long enough now to know that a broken 9 is quite rare, so there is little justification in not getting one or two.

I got it stripped and sanded down.
The pics do not show it well but the flats and more shinny with a rustic look the grinds are just stripped, lightly sanded with 400 grit paper and polished with flitz.I think this is as far as I am going to take it.
Now to make it some kydex pants if I get around to ordering some foam for my press.

Got the foam for my press and a couple more sheets of kydex.
This is the second kydex sheath I have made.May not be up to the pros but I am really liking them.
Only used one layer of duct tape on the blade for this one and it fit very snug with a strong snap at the opening.Got to order a couple tech locks.
Got to say the sheath makes the knife feel better, much more easy for carry and more compact.
I think I am calling it done when I get some micarta scales.

You guys just love bumping old threads...

Umm, he started it, and is updating it. Not really bumping old threads, but continuing one he started.

Good lookin' sheath there UB. One layer of tape? I just bareback mine in the press. :D
