BK ChOICES

I'm not all that enamored of the 7, honestly. Don't get me wrong, I like it; it just sort of falls short for me. Not quite big enough to be a big knife, not quite small enough to be a good general purpose knife. I still use it - it just doesn't doesn't have that "right knife for the job" feel most of the time; and I'm fairly accustomed to using larger than necessary blades for routine tasks.
As such, I'd be inclined to suggest the BK16 for your 15 yr old - I think it's easier to learn knife skills with a smaller blade; and the 16 is still big enough to not disappoint him.
Besides - later, when you get yourself a "12" (or a 9), you can pass along the 7 to your son & add to your awesome dad score.

The Christmas choice argument is valid...but you can pull the father knows best card.

Instead of asking everyone here what they think, why don't you ask them!

It's Christmas, so I think a kid, or an adult should get what they want. Not what the consensus of a motley crew of knife addicts thinks, or wants.

Knowing you want to guide them, ask them to research the net and determine which they like, and talk it over with you. Tell them to watch reviews a read up a bit. Show them where the resources are, and tell them to make up their mind. See where they go, and offer advice. If you're hunters, you should already know what works for you when you gut, and dress out your kill.

This way, they learn how to research and get what they want for Christmas. As well, you might just set the hook in another knife nut.

Have fun,
Doc
Best advice yet....tho I see you've already made your order. I'm sure no one will be disappointed. Plus, Dex is a great guy to deal with. Have a great Christmas!

Hey Steven.....

The Sixteen is likely to be the most useful for your older one and maybe you should pair it up with a Nine later....... I was using a Puma White Hunter at 11 or thereabouts and can see no reason your Ten year old could not handle a sixteen as well if it will fit his hand....... My second "good" blade was a Puma Hunter's Friend which is similar in size to the Sixteen......I wish I had gotten the Friend first and absorbed what it had to teach me before I went long..... I wish you lived in the neighborhood so I could give your young men a tutorial ........ Where are you all located ?.......

I love my Eleven and always have one close but the blade I want is almost always a Sixteen or a Nine........ Or. Hehehe the new Kukri..........

It would be nice but, certainly not a requirement...... It really is not so much for the dad's but the kids.....

Thanks Ethan, I know they would enjoy that. And I know I would. My 10 year old is just now getting the knife bug. I figured start him out right.
