BK Patina, show em off.

Great thread, Nikki.
I even like the Tobasco stretch marks.
I've tried lemons, grapefruit, mustard, and onions on a few of my carbon knives. I never seem to get an outcome that compares to what others have posted here.

The 16 Came Clich'd by Clich.
I sanded down the sides to ~ 1500 grit, I think, but left the flats; baked it in a white vinegar/yellow mustard mix. That was a year ago; the rest is just natural aging and use/abuse.
The screws were black oxide. I soaked 'em in Drano, hit 'em with a Dremel wire brush, and dunked 'em in the vinegar/mustard mix before leaving for the weekend. When I came back, I lightly wire brushed off the surface rust and dipped 'em in oil.

The 24, I cut citrus and stuck in an onion overnight. I couldn't see that it made much difference at all.

Since then, I've done a hot mix of 4 different vinegars, lemon and lime juice, yellow mustard, and tapatio sauce on the 24 and 7. I'm going to attempt pics this weekend, but my wife just donated away about 3 hours of my free time, so I'm not sure it'll happen.

Last but not least the BK5 after it was sharpened (natural patina):

I really like the looks of the BK's when they weather and stain by the elements and whatever I cut. Especially wicked looking is a natural patina with a convex polish edge.

Here are the mixed-vinegar BK24 and BK-7.
The 7 has done some tree pruning and firewood battoning - you can see the wear marks on the fairly young patina.

Here is a WIP BK15. Still trying to decide on scales and need to finish the sheath.

I don't believe in it...

But NikkiR, go back in history and search for a Beckerhead called Clich. He doesn't post anymore, but he was the Patina Master.

+1 on this. Some of his creations are still around. I think johnny has a BK10 he did. I know somebody has that snakeskin 5 too. His posting is what got me interested in modding beckers. Hope is well...

My patina was achieved with various methods all as one huge experiment. After etching the logo and stripping the blade I did the following:

-Full wirewheel clean.
-Applied full strength Ferric Chloride via a cotton ball to the blade, all over. This darkened up the flats really nice.
-Light wipe with very fine steel wool.
-Yellow mustard camo blobs, 2 hours per side. Washed and hit with a light wipe with the steel wool.
-Hot vinegar soak. Wrapped the blade in paper towels and put into a foil trough. Soaked with white vinegar and put into oven on 150*. Soaked for just over an hour. Rinsed, steel wooled.
-Final layer of patina was achieved by taking the same soaked paper towels and twisting them up then laying them side by side down the length of the blade for a couple hours each side.

Rinsed in baking soda and water to stop the reaction, then oiled.

This is what you get when you spend a week around salt water.but don't worry, some steel wool and we are good to go!

My new 16. Stripped the blade only, convexed and patina applied. Used only hot vinegar. This one turned out better (more even) than any I've done previously. Now to get to that micarta that wants me to turn it into scales...

A lot of new folks here,
Let's get this going again.

Here's my 11, vinegar soaked.

New people ya say!

Nice bit of kit Nikki. Love the Rune and the watch. Brass rules,
Very nice Tatoo!

Here is my 16 with a Pilsner Patina,
Soaked in cold beer for over six hours. Me that is, the knife just sat there.

I soaked in India Pale Ale for two days to get this,

When it warms up a bit. I am going to soak my 5.

I'm thinking I might try a nice Belgian Patina on that one,
