BK&T Custom Shop???

If kabar sold beckers blade only.... nowwe are talking!!! I dont know if its feasible (we are all already spoiled by their amazing value) but imagine. You could do the things you would do anyway (if you were inclined too), new sheath, new scales, at hopefuly a lower cost (maybe $60 instead of $80-$90?)
You would of course end up spending more than a stock model, but not as much as we are now. It would probably put the price point between a stock becker and an esee that already has upgrades (but you cant pick and choose THAT much with esee, even with tkc) which would probably tip sales in beckers favor, especially all of those people who are on the fence. Of course how decadent you go with the mods, that plays a part, but even then, you would end up paying less and wouldnt have the hassle of trying to sell off or trade your extra stock scales and sheath. Just an idea. Who knows, kabar probably gets such a good deal on the stock scales and sheath that it probably wouldnt drop the price that much.
Really, a made in the usa blade of this caliber could sell for more as is. I am grateful that such value exists!
Good thought but thinking about it All we are probably paying for is the blade they just throw in the scales and sheath to tie us over :p Just playing but I don't think we would be saving enough and the sheaths are actually not bad only on a few the 5 and 7 are all I haven't been thrilled about. The scales are fine too when you think about it.

I like the idea but most of us probably wouldn't be willing to pay the price . It's great idea though  like Ethan has said in the past 1095 works and it truly dose. The only thing that could be a draw back that I can think of is possible rust. With very little care it has not been any issue with me as of yet and if by chance it ever happens than it would be my own fault :D. When I think of how good 1095 works I always ask myself would better Steel work any better and be as easy to up keep. I don't know. I do have some folders with the exotic steels and truly like em, I wish I knew someone who beats on S30v or 154cm Honestly I don't think I could get myself to spend a big price on a knife and use it like I would a Becker. If I was as good looking as Tanker it might be a different story though. When he gets his boss some new eyewear and his boss sees what a handsome guy he is , he should be getting a good raise or at least not have to work for a living :)
 Awe shucks Xr Thanks Brother

I'am with you as nice as the scales are I change em too and most of the sheaths :D but so many just run em as they are . KaBar probably buys so many sheaths and scales I would think the price they pay per knife is low and that if they passed there cost on to us we would be much better off with the plastic scales and sheath :)

I totally agree! My post was long winded, but i expressed that sentiment as well.

I would be excited to see Kabar sell some quality leather for the Beckers. At least for the 16 and 9. They seem popular enough to warrant it.

Unfortunately, then you start getting into copyright infringement territory. Gotta remember, these knives are all Uncle E’s babies. All of them, in production or not. Gonna need to get his blessings. And Kabar’s. And some royalties exchanged somewhere. And, and, and...you get the idea. Won’t be worth the while for a very small run.
Sorry Aikiguy, I was talking about a KA-BAR/BK&T Custom shop not someone who just decided to make copies of Ethan's knifes.

KaBar makes many knives that provide great value - including Becker Knives. If Kabar could be convinced to produce a "Premium Line" for Knife Knuts like us, then I can think of no better Kabar product line to test the water of that marketing model with than BK&T.

Never gonna happen.

A) Becker fans (and yes, I'm pulling out the broad paintbrush now) are the types who want to do the mods themselves. "I make it my knife when I mod it into what I want." We don't want to pay extra to have it come from the factory like that.
B) I dont think there could practically be enough options to make it worth it. The only options would be coated/uncoated, and grivory/micarta/G10 scales. I can't imagine them setting up to do things like de-ramp, polish, add choils, square spine, etc... I just don't think it's practical.

I mean, Buck has their custom shop. But really they are just assembling the options onto the knife that is all standard spec. "You want bone scales with NS bolsters? Sure, we can do that" and they plug the components together.

I think the closest we could see to this is if the folks at TKC get on the stick and offer a "build a Becker" option the way they have with ESEE and now Ontario. We can pick a blank Becker blade, pick which scales and which sheath. I'd be all over that.
Just let me choose an alloy... Say, a BK5 in Cruwear, or a BK15 in M390 or AEB-L, how about a BK4 in 3V?

Just the choice of having:
- a high wear stainless (Elmax, M390/20CV/204P)
- a high toughness tool steel (3V/PD1/Cruwear)
- and a clean stainless (AEB-L/13c26, or even CPM154 for a slight bump in alloying elements and edge retention, but easy to field repair) would be a nice group of options.

Something for everyone, all enviroments, and planned usage, with only 3 additional heat treat protocols. All of these alloys have something comparable from their steel supplier.
